It’s a great trail. Loved everything about it. Going there towards end of the spring and just before summer, There are several places where the trail was overgrown and it was impossible to see the trail - especially the last part getting back to the fire road. We literally had to guess and pray that we were not stepping on a snake or something else.

Great hike. Good for medium or heavy cardio. Needs a little path clearing but still a great viewpoint

Beautiful hike, especially during spring time. Lots of wildflowers along the path.

another jewel in the east bay hikes. great mix of easy to moderate sections. sycamore trail from the north end down to the valley is narrow and overgrown vegetation due to the winter rains. beautiful spring blooms and an virtually empty valley trail makes it much more rewarding than the ridge trail. Devils hole is a good landmark to visit at least once, you can crawl thru the hole if you so dare. from the outer parking lot its almost a 8 mile loop. can get windy and chilly on the ridge. recommended to have a wind cheater and full length wear to avoid getting scratched

Great views of SF bay and surrounding. Allow about 3 hours to get around due to steepness of trails.

A great trail, especially running up the first hill. Once you get to the top you get a beautiful scenery.

One of our Favorite hikes. Once you turn left and go down into Sycamore and come up Devils trail - No noise. No people. Just the wind at your ears and birds. Great escape! Solid fairly easy east bay hike.

One of our favorite hikes, We add the Devils hole loop adding 1.8 miles. Once you go over the ridge into Devils hole loop you are completely alone. No city noise, no other hikers - ever, no mountain bikes. Just Retail Hawks, Turkeys, Stellars Jays and views of Castro Valley, Oakland airport, and San Pablo Reservoir Dam. It is single track with switchbacks heading down Sycamore Trail, Fun. The climb out of Devils hole is straight up, a butt kicker. This is one of our go-to hikes. Then come down Elderberry is mostly under canopy so it's kinda doable on a warm day. Just under 8 miles.

Beautiful scenery during the entire hike! The first part was uphill and difficult, but then the path mellows out at the top. Stunning views of east bay and peaks of the city at the top. Be careful with your dog off leash as we saw and heard other people seeing snakes along the path. Super exposed so bring sunscreen and lots of water to stay hydrated. Windy at the top. We’ll definitely revisit!

Great walk. The ridge line was fantastic. Took us about 2 hours at a nice clip.

Good work out! Variety of views with wild flowers, stream, and fossil rocks.

The views are amazing from Devils Hole trail. Sycamore trail is narrow, with lots of brush infringing. Strongly recommended long pants and long sleeves. Also, plenty of poison oak.

I started from the end point so your experience may differ from the other end. The first .6 miles was quite steep and a bit muddy, but was passable. About a mile and a half in there is a cow pasture. once you get in that area the grade and slippery trail combine to make it to dangerous for me to continue, so I went back. I went in April, so you may want to try it in a dryer time of the year. It was strikingly beautiful though.

Nice views of Mt. Diabolo. If you want to avoid the private roads to the trailhead you can do the trail in reverse, start at Elworthy Staging Area, Las Trampas Regional Wilderness https://goo.gl/maps/RfuuDdmQeuH2

getting to the trailhead is a joke - all the roads are private and gated! didn’t even get to do the hike since i was limited on time and couldn’t add an extra 10 miles of walk/run to the trip

a great hike with excellent views. We picked a nice cool day with white clouds for a backdrop. Will definitely hike again!

Beautiful views. A few hills, but easy.

We hiked the loop in reverse starting at Madrone Trail and I think it was even better. Good challenging day hike for semi beginner hikers.

Just hiked it today 8 Miles 1900 ft elevation. Today’s hike Rocky Ridge and Rocky Ridge View out and Back . With an add on towards St Mary’s. Great place to hike especially in the winter drys out fast especially the service road up Rocky Ridge. Been hiking this area for 40 Years

Staging lot to the gate up the hill is a tuff climb, 1 mile. Once at gate, Ridge Trail and Cuesta Trail off to left whines further up hill. Once on ridge beautiful view of San Francisco to west, Mt Diablo to east, Concord and river in back ground to the north, and then Tri-Valley off in distance to the south. Was pretty windy up their but in Feb. clear day and hills all green.

Steep incline to start for roughly a mile but evens out near the top. Beautiful view of Diablo and lots of bird sightings. Mind the cows

Nice hiking out there! It’s nice to see Fresh green hills.

nice people.lots of cows and cow pies. ran across a grumpy cow on the trail and he tries to charge me and my dog. we were fine. no issues

What a great day for a hike with my pup! only reason it is getting a 4 star is because of the mud slides that took out about 10 yards of the trail but they have a path around it! it is partially paved and part dirt/rock

Great trail. Couple of things to note: cows (to avoid) in parts of the trail; very strong winds sometimes in top. Not for beginners.

Very pleasant hike. It’s not too hard I would rate it as moderate.

It's like running on pillows right now
