A fantastic trail right off the 133. Easy parking, $3 for the day. There’s a ranger station/visitor center right by the lot. Awesome & clean. Restrooms for use before you hit the trail. Once out in trail there’s a bit of a climb at the beginning and end but nothing too bad. The end elevation gain is probably the worse of the two. Nice view from the top once you get there.

More like a 6.5 mile hike. Lots of uphill at the beginning and end. Travelled counter clockwise which I suggest as there are a lot of loose rocks at the beginning. Happy hiking!

The best way, IMO, to do this trail is to start at blackjack (you’d be ascending the trail, rather than descending), and then take the ridge line trail and edison trail to the lake, then looping back via lake trail to the lot.

The view is nice (though you are right up against some houses), the climb up blackjack was a good workout , and there wasn’t a lot of foot-traffic.

Also, be aware of where you park, we initially stopped at Nix nature center (where apple maps took us), but you actually want to continue further south to the next lot (if you want to start at blackjack)

Great hike. Amazing views. The trail at the beginning goes down so coming back..... Your going up. But we did 5.5 miles and it wonderful. Lots of beetles, rabbits and road runners. Park by the soccer field and walk up to the trail.

Nice hike combining three trails. We saw lots of ground squirrels, lizards, and hummingbirds and had a garter snake cross the trail in front of us.

Great hike!

We started at Nix Nature Center and walked through the underpass to this trail. The views from the Ridgeline trail were amazing.

Good first hike in Laguna. Nice views.

Lake was beautiful. Love that we could improvise the "inner loop" of this network. The descent at the end is made harder by the relatively poor state of the trail; especially after a recent few days of rain.

Did the loop of 3.9 miles. We went by Barbara’s Lake first which was nice scenery . The majority of the hike was pretty tame but we ended on a descent that could be described as moderate. Nice little trek for a Saturday morning and not overly trafficked.

Nice trail, some sections wide some single track. decent views of Irvine at the top.

No biking allowed on this trail.

We were visiting the area and had a couple of hours to do this hike. There are some steep rocky inclines but the views along the way and especially along the top were worth it! Wear good shoes and bring water.

Lots of cool birds for my friend. Not very much shade for me.

Very easy hike, nice trail to run on. Bring lots of water because theirs is NO shade.

Enjoyable hike to start the new year. Plenty of up and down areas but nothing crazy.

This would be a great route to run.

Fun hiking trail with a great view of Catalina on clear days. Lots of Mountain Bikers so stay alert and it won't be a problem.

I really liked it, extreme heat and all. My wife did not.

Beautiful views - pretty steep at certain points, so wear appropriate footwear. Bring water!

Nice and easy trail.

Trail does not open until 8:00am!! Makes me angry. Gate locked. The you still have to pay $3

We didn't see a soul on this trail. We took the lake trail to Edison then canyon trail. a couple of steep parts with loose rock on the canyon trail besides that, a nice walk

Steep climb through the canyon, worth the views along the way and at the top. The interpretive center is nice and they have good bathrooms. Several picnic tables near the parking area would make for a great post-hike picnic. Pay machines are not always working, recommend bringing cash to pay

This is a nice trail. Very easy. I took Lake Trail>Gravel Road>Barbara's Lake, the lake is full right now and gorgeous. We got to see bunnies, ducks, and some type of gopher!

Nice and quick Saturday morning hike/walk with just enough length and elevation gain to feel good. You are not too tired to get home by 11am to get to work on your house to do list.

cool to chill

If you stay to the right and take the ridge trail you can make the hike about 3 miles. Take the black jack trail to get to the ridge. Very steep and narrow path up river rocks but smooth mild hike after that. The lake had ducks in it and everything was green. Beautiful views of the snow capped mountains. Thankful for all the recent rain.

Nice easy wide trail with smaller side trails that are apparently more difficult but were closed today because of all the rain in the past week making the trails too wet and slippery. My 3.5 year old toddler was able to hike for 1.5 hours without problems. Watch out for a lot of mountain bikers riding fast! Also watch out for VERY LARGE POOP throughout the trail of some sort of animal other than a dog. Loved this hike and will do it again!

it was an okay hike, but the lake is completely dried up now and it was very hot. there are some nice hills and wildflowers but not a very interesting or unique hike. we some some hawks and a road runner though:) also you have to pay $3 for parking. go on a cooler day or else youll be sweating like crazy
