You can get a ton of miles running around the lake. If you are a birder, you can see many different species of bird around the lake as well as deer. It's very beautiful in early spring after the rains when the surrounding hills are green.

Good hike. Can get steep at parts, especially towards the end. Beautiful views. Cost $5 for daily pass.

This was a cool trail! It’s a pretty steep trail but it has plenty of spots to take a breather in. There were a handful of folks who were riding horses on the little trails off the main walking path. I’ve driven past Peña Adobe a bunch of times and I’m glad I was finally able to check it out and explore the area!

I like this trail. There are many different trails actually. (I only recorded 3/4 of my walk today.) Has a little bit for everyone to enjoy: picnic area, dog park, playground, frisbee track, walking trails, lake, some wildlife, etc. Trail damp in areas after recent rains, but not bad. Part of the trail has asphalt. A little more foot traffic this Friday morning before the holiday, some bikes, some dogs (most on a leash). I could hear the freeway traffic more on this walk then I have on others. However, I dare say when they created this 30-40 years ago, they didn’t think it would be a heavily used highway.

Beautiful, open, sunny day to take hike great view of the 80 freeway, A man made lake to look at. It was uphill to a tower and then back down. There were cows. But definitely not a problem. Use sunblock and take a hat. It took us 1.45 hrs.

This is a great trail for those living in Vaca or Fairfield who want something close. It's quite a bit uphill but the view is spectacular. Took 2 hours from when we walked out of the car almost exactly. We got there around 0830 and it was moderately just, towards the end around 1000 people were fewer in between. Also great park to bring a picnic and let the dogs run at the dog park! We saw several elementary aged kids on the trail too. Happy hiking.

Moderate hike - a bit of uphill but equals out with flat land. Good prep for mission peak.

Great hike for beginners! There are a couple routes you can take here, depending on which side you park on. I usually do this with a weighted vest for cardio, but you’ll see a lot of people who do it as a casual hike with family or their dogs. The longest hike to the top is gradual and all up-hill as one reviewer has stated, but it’s a challenge for stamina and endurance. The trek down is a beautiful, peaceful walk down if you have the time to spare but otherwise a nice run down. There is a shorter hike up to a separate tower, but it’s steeper and shaded! I usually do this hike when I’m off my daily routine and I’m in a crunch for time. Great workout for the lower body. I definitely recommend a weighted vest!

I walk this trail often. It's a nice mildly difficult trail. Usually you'll see cows which I love. It's very popular so if you're looking for privacy this trail is not for you. However hikers are nice people so say hi, maybe you'll make a friend.

Can be quite muddy in the spring. If you take the normal Pena Adobe Hill route it is all pavement until the top (by the radio tower). After cresting the hill you find yourself going through cow fields on a narrow trail. The trail is okay for a solo hiker and maybe a couple, but I would not suggest groups. Best to have your pooch leashed (and I did see paw tracks in the mud). Dogs are allowed on the paved section, but probably best to keep the pooch leashed.

Nice for a short Sunday walk.

Disappointing. This is basically city type park with a huge parking lot, picnic tables and a fenced dog park. The hiking trail basically goes through an overgrazed cow pasture. The cows have destroyed what could be a pretty park. Unless you enjoy walking through cow

The first trail I have hiked since moving to California. It was definitely a lot more demanding than expected but the views at the top were worth it. There are a ton of trails that run off the main one, but be sure to have some sort of ankle support. Lots of cow dung on the trail so watch your step.

Extremely muddy - way up was nice but busy, the more narrow trail back was pretty exhausting due to all the mud. Put on good (water and mud proof) shoes!!

Not a bad trail for flat mileage. Nothing too technical & not a lot of altitude changes. Trail around lake is a little soupy after rain.

Love this place. People always present and friendly. I’ve lost 200 lbs in my life and the last 60 of it going up and down this hill♥️❤️

This is great for a quick flat run if you just want to get your distance in. You also have several other options if you want to challenge yourself and take another trail with incline.
