Come it was our first time, and it’s a great hike. It was about 4 miles in all, and the first part is steep, and it’s a bit slippery going back down, It’s good to have a hiking poles. The views are beautiful, and the loop on top is mostly level, and in a redwood and oak forest. Really peaceful. Dogs off leash are allowed on the fire trail going up, but on the loop need to be leashed, and it is enforced. Hike took us about two hours, going a pretty easy pace

Note that if you search "King Mountain Loop Trail" on Google Maps, it'll take you to the trailhead out at Ridgecrest Road, where it's much more out of the way and harder to find parking. Regardless, it's still a charming loop trail. We went counter-clockwise and covered about 3/4 of the loop before taking the Citron Fire Road down to the start/end trailhead designated on AllTrails. The fire road provided a beautiful view of Marin with a steep downhill incline. The loop part of the trail is fairly easy and well-shaded under consistent tree cover. However, the trail gets narrow at parts and has a lot of rocky ground and uneven roots. Also be on the lookout for poison oak. We saw some lizards and even a curious deer, but no other animals (still, heed the coyote warning signs)! We were also pleasantly surprised to find ample cell phone service for our map apps. Dogs are allowed, and bikes are not. Enjoy the beautiful, varied plant life and views of Marin throughout. Not crowded at all, even on Labor Day.

The first part of the hike on the fire trail is steep and rocky. The King Mountain Loop is a nice trail through Madrone, Redwood and manzanita is beautiful with sweeping views of the Bay at the top. Recommend this hike!

Prepare for a steep, hot start! My legs hurt for days after this one. The good thing is that it's only steep for a little bit and then flattens out and winds through shady trees.

Very Nice short hike with a solid incline at the beginning. You can street park in the residential area near the trailhead. The first part of the hike (before it forks) is pretty steep but after that it’s mostly flat-ish, minus a bit of stairs near the summit. Pretty trees and (on a clear day) a stunning view of Marin! Took us about 2 hours to complete but we stopped a lot and walked fairly slow. Saw a few other hikers along the way. The app says 3.3 miles but my recording says we went 3.9 miles. I would definitely do this one again!! Could be a great workout if you power walk/jog this trail.

Fabulous views- Steep at points, then easy walking. Not a lot of parking in area, good for locals. Shortish trail, accessed from top of Skylark as well.

Nice narrow path loop. Easy to moderate.

This is an Ok trail. Today was Jun 23, and it was hot and dry. The little creek was dried up, so make sure you come during more moist days. The view is super pretty and you see SOME red-wood trees. It is a very relaxing hike, with most of the workout at the beginning. Definitely check it out!

Very convenient to Larkspur. Nice bay and Mt Tam views.

The first 3/4 mile on the fire road is fairly steep but when you get to the loop, it's very easy. It's also very shaded in the loop. I went counter clockwise and took every left. There seems to be some other adjoining trails. I hike with 2 smaller dogs and they picked up some small burs that stuck to them. Nothing too bad.

Was a little bit hilly at the first leg of the trip... Then opened up onto the shades trail.... About half way there was some more uphill calorie burning stairs...stairs and more stairs.... Then mostly low grade the rest of the hike... Beautiful views from the top!! Not too bad of a family hike !!

Great midweek hike fun with our dogs!

Beautiful trail, moderate climb with exception to several rather steep points. A bit frustrating to see the multiple bags of dog feces and miscellaneous trash along the trail. Otherwise an excellent hike with an epic view of Tam as a reward when you reach the top!

Year round trail with some views of Larkspur and Mt. Tam. Much of trail is heavily brushed and closed in. Loop trail - start to right if you want to end with up stairs, or vice versa. Intersects with other trails including down town Larkspur. Can be busy on weekends.
