the trail itself was mostly a wash basin. There we're some well maintained stairs for most of the climbs. There were plenty of places to do some bouldering, and side excursions. we ended up making it a 3-mile loop. Moderate is a very good description, nice for adults and still kid friendly.

Cool area. Parking is weird. I would park at the campground.

Short, a nice first stretch of the legs after a long drive to the park.

A short but steep hike, well worth the trip. It’s a wonder why this isn’t listed as a main hike on the parks brochure.

Honestly it was a really great hike I went on Sunday and there was a light traffic of people, however it was still extremely enjoyable. I’ll admit I actually got off the path a few times, so I had to use this apps map to help me get back on course. Going down to the actual palm trees was a challenge, but it was worth it. There are many beautiful scenarios along the way so I recommend doing this hike.

Best part about this hike is climbing around on all of the different rock formations. We spent hours scrambling around and trying to get to the top of each pile of rocks. So much fun, and an experience very unique to Joshua Tree NP.

Ah negro hill, yes well if you’re looking for hard work don’t look to negro. Even the laziest of man can conquer the negro, hill that it...

A nice, quiet trail that gives a good feel for the landscape of JT. There are no spectacular views here by any means, but it’s a nice trail to walk, it’s (relatively) well marked, and has quite a few other trails nearby if you’d like to get some more elevation. We did not find it quite as solitary as some other reviews, but your mileage may vary depending on the time of day and season.

Short loop around the area. Boulders to climb and play on. Very quick with informative placards. Good for families.

Easy short trail. End of it leads to ruins of the old ranch that you can walk through. Good hike for those who are looking for an easy walk.

Favorite hike in the entire park

Short but really beautiful hike. The landscape changes a lot and a bit of rock climbing needed at certain points.

Fun short hike with a lot of cactuses to see

Uhmm hmmmm. A good part of this loop was walking thru the parking lots of a campground? And right along the road. If you have really young kids it’s a good one.

Perfect high desert hike for ruggedly beautiful scenery. Clusters of stacked granite boulders and Joshua Trees give it “alien world” aspect. You’re hiking in the river bed once you split off the main trail so you’ll get some shelter from winds there and loose sand underfoot. Maybe favorite hike in Joshua

The road to the trail was closed today.

Did as beginning and end of Lost Oasis hike. It was lovely with the mine, many flowers and many hummingbirds near the yellow flowered bushes. End is a little confusing because it says trail is closed due to flood damage.

A lovely hike but very steep small section to get into the oasis. We returned via the Mastadon loop, and there were lovely flowers and many hummingbirds. However the very end to rerun to Cottonwood Springs parking is confusing as the area was closed after flooding.

This trail is exceptionally difficult if you descend into Pine Canyon and requires climbing gear / expertise to navigate the boulders. Do not recommend taking children into the canyon or for inexperienced climbers.

Easy and great scenery!

Great hike with a fantastic payoff. Short but strenuous. Worth the trip

Great flat trail. Well marked and the map on AllTrails app really helped to stay on trail. We started around 9am and did not see a single other hiker on the trail. It is nice quiet and peaceful.

Great walk, lots of variety, ups and downs. It;s a bit of a clamber down the canyon at the end, but not too bad. We took our 7 and 9 yo and did the whole thing in about 4 hours. Definitely worth the hike. Views of the salton see on the way

Very quick hike with nice views at the peak halfway through

This hike was amazing and the abandoned miner hut at the end was way cooler than I was expecting! Only word of caution is that I wouldn’t say it’s an “easy” hike. The distance and climb are absolutely doable, but there were definitely some spots going up and down where we had to pick our way up and down through some rocks and rough terrain. We were able to do it with our kids without issue (youngest is 9) but it wouldn’t have been doable for hikers who are less sure-footed (much younger or elderly)

Really nice flat trail - great for kids to run and climb rocks and still interesting enough to keep the grown ups happy! Beautiful and interesting rock formations all along the trail. Well worth the trip!!

This is the perfect hike in my opinion. 2 miles of beautiful views and interesting terrain (not all flat or boring by any means). Loved this!

Moderate climb up and down, made it in 3 hours moving fast! Lots of scrambling and climbing boulders, not for those who dislike a hard climb. Didn’t see anyone else on the trail, be sure to use a Map with a pin location to ensure you aren’t going too far.
