If you like bouldering and lots of people around check out this tail. The rock formations are beautiful, but challenging and abrasive to navigate. We didn't hike the whole loop, but spent about 30 minutes here before venturing on to Lost Horse Mine and Ryan Mtn trails.

Not a hike, but a very cool spot to check out the teddy bear cholla. I’ll admit I wasn’t stoked on coming here, but I’m glad my friend convinced me. Loved seeing the cool cacti.

This is truly a gorgeous area. We came here for sunset over Memorial Day weekend, not planning to walk this trail, but we hiked it in the dark and it was still awesome. This is a great spot to see the moon rise. I’ll have to come back in the daytime. :)

On the easy side of moderate. Hiked this Memorial Day weekend. Great length for a warm day. Very cool to see the oasis pop up amongst all the rocks. Nice shady spot for a break before heading back to the car. Sad to see tons of people going beyond the sign that marks the sensitive biological area and tells people not to go beyond it. :(

This was a beautiful hike, saw lots of lizards, road runners, jack rabbits and almost stepped on a beautiful snake (no, I’m not scared of snakes and God’s creations are all beautiful in their own way) so that got the morning started off well. Jeff had read on another review to hike the loop going counter clockwise....it wasn’t until our hike DOWN that I understood why. If we would have hiked going clockwise we may have still been out there trying to finish. It would have been uphill most of the way. Don’t go left...go right...go counter clockwise. Plus take plenty of water and start early in the morning. The reason it’s not getting 5 stars is because the trail wasn’t marked very well. For as popular as it claims to be, there needs to be good, straightforward signs letting the hikers know if they are going the correct way. Also, there wasn’t any warning about the little chat/gravel you have to walk in. May sound picky on my part but still, a little heads up would have been welcomed. Would I recommend this hike? YES...but remember go counter clockwise and have fun. Oh and don’t forget to watch where you are stepping

Lots of fun boulder problems and good rock. Very cool little area

great 3 mile total hike. 2 hours, did it at about 8am to make sure we weren't overwhelmed with the heat. As mentioned by other users, entry is free and parking is readily available.

Great trail. We did this in June and the weather was very hot. Just make sure to bring a hat and lots of water with you. Sunscreen and sunglasses are also necessary since there's hardly any shade. It's all well worth the beautiful view at the top! Also make sure to not get lost, we went on the wrong turn on our way back and added an extra mile to it lol grab a map from the camping services center or just keep an eye out on your phone for directions!

As you start the hike you will come across a “fork” in the trail marked by stones gathered together in the Shape of a

Super cool to see all these cactus. Bees were not a problem. A must see if you get to the park.

I really enjoyed this trail. It had many different, rocky paths, and you had good views of old mining camps and abandoned buildings.

This was a very fun, scenic trail. Many great views, rock climbing, and very active during the weekend.

I really enjoyed this trail. The dam was kind of shallow, but the view was nice, there was lots of scenic background and great spot for taking photos.

Great trail ... amazing views ... looking forward to walking it again ...

Good loop with chances for rock scrambling if so inclined. Nice for a short trail run.

Great little walk. Truly an amazing little spot on the more desolate Colorado desert side of Joshua Tree. I wouldn’t say go out of your way but if you come in the cottonwood gate it’s worth the stop.

Best hike we did in Joshua Tree. AllTrails says it’s an in and out but when you arrive there is a loop trail marked, take the Loop!!! The backside of the loop drops you into a valley that is far better then the famed Hidden Valley Trail. Start early and you will see tons of wild hares and rabbits. Parts are in the wash that can be a little confusing so just keep an eye out for the trail signs...if your unsure just push on slightly looking for the signs, if in doubt double back and try another wash, just stick with it. Super secluded, we saw no one on our 2.5 hour walk.

Did this on 5/09/18 was a Great hike ! A bit steep and rocky but Well Worth the effort

Great trail for little hikers that don’t mind some climbing. Rock staircases are fascinating, and at 1.3 miles it won’t turn the kids off. Great views, great flora and great fauna.

Hiked this trail in Dec 2017 with the hubs and Feb 2018 with our (grown) daughter. Loved it both times. The trail changes so much it's interesting to hike. I can see why there are warnings to not hike in summer and in heat. There is pretty much no breeze and were it not "cold" (i.e. 45-60 degrees) when we hiked, it would be dangerous. Worth it, but only in the winter.

Beautiful, easy hike. Just wish it was a bit more off the road. I always see chuckwallas and last time a 4 foot diamondback

I didn't do the whole thing so I can't say, but at least half way, and I just really liked the trees in the valley somehow. I know trees are all nice around in Joshua, but it was special for me.

Just do something else around, I'm not sure I understand why this is an option. Do skull rock if you want something small.

I did this trail by mistake (credit to bad prep I guess). It can be hard to follow at the begining, but I think it got better as the trail went on. Not amazing so maybe do another one in the area.

Nice one, worth doing with the other small one around like discovery and skull rock, but it does get repetitive. Still, it gives a good feeling for what is around

Cute small walk

That was well worth the small detour! After a full day of walking around and being fairly dirsty, the sight of the pond/lake is very special. Small walk worth doing

I'd personnally include doing the whole loop towards split rock to get a good feel of the desert, see face rock (or something like that), but anyhow it's not great, just gives a good feeling of the area.

Worth doing along with the other loop around there. Not great but it's giving you a good feel of this area, and it's fairly short
