Good little loop. Well marked. Good amounts of up and down hill. Great work out.

this is a good hike. I don't think it can sit in the easy Category. it is moderate. there is a fair amount high incline climbing. If the temperature is hot (over 85) make sure to bring water.

Jack's Peak should be a spot on your radar if you are hiking with a furry friend or two, just heard a tsunami warning, ❤️ Monterey Pines, or had a late lazy feed and want a place to hike that offers some mid day shade while you burn off that breakfast burrito, beignet or benedict on some rolling forest hills. Some excellent bay views spanning Pt Lobos to Moss Landing and across the big blue to Santa Cruz. If you rolled back time 12 million years, Jack's Peak would have been an island in the Pacific Ocean. Most of your hike will be absorbing the vibes of the endemic Monterey Pine Forest, peppered with just enough poison oak to keep you from daydreaming. Be prepared with $5 cash for self registered parking. Otherwise, just outside the county park gates, there are 10 or so roadside parallel parking spots if you don't mind hiking, biking or skating in. Doggie poo bags available at the entrance kiosk if you forgot your own.

Once again writing from the point of a dad with 4 kids. The parking off of Jack's Peak road had picnic tables with views of Monterey Bay as well as bathrooms with running water. There is also an information board with trail maps. A great place to start with kids. There are several trails that converge here and I recommend starting with the skyline self guided nature trail (there is a brochure available for download at the parks site). The skyline trail provides better views of the bay and dead ends into Iris so it is a great add on. Iris and Rhus themselves are really nice forest trails. If you are into geocaching make sure you check your app because there are a ton of them in this park. The weekday hours were from 10:00 to 5:00 so keep that in mind if you are headed there Monday-Friday. Overall this a great place to hike with kids. Great views, enough challenge, and plenty of opportunities to hit the bathroom.

Breathtaking- literally! There's a part of the trail where it is crazy steep, but overall it was a nice trail. Beautiful view of the bay. Mostly shaded. Pet friendly. Lots of dogs there.

We went on a beautiful day and got glimpses of the bay, Carmel beach, etc but other than that it was a forest trail. Still very enjoyable, but I was expecting more views!

3 stars cuz I did not think this was easy. the one labeled coffee berry on the maps has more than a 120 elevation climb in 0.3 mls. I thought this was the hardest part of all of my hike.

Beautiful view at the beginning then stuck in the forest for the rest of the trail. Cool to see the city!

$5 entrance fee. The trail is great for kids but make sure they stay in the middle of the path to ensure they don't get poison oak. It is everywhere. One complaint I do have is if you have a dog, ensure that it is on its leash. There was a lady that had 5 dogs and 2 were not leashed and one of the loose dogs came running and chasing my kids. Under different circumstances it would be different but because these dogs were loose and running all through the bush they had ticks that fell off and landed on my wife which i spotted right away. Also chasing my kids I didn't want the dogs brushing up on them because of the poison oak. Like I said, under different circumstances I do not have issues with other peoples animals but when there are signs posted telling you to keep you dogs on a leash it is for very good reasons.
The hike has good lookout points in which you can see the bay and then some.
Happy Trekking!
