Great hike, serious vertical up and out of the loop. One hour or more on the way up. Lake surrounded by granite walls.

I really enjoyed this hike! Offered a decent level of physical challenge, while also affording some better than average scenery! Very easily found the trail head and experienced no difficulty to Valentine Lake. Do be warned though, those with less-than a decent level of fitness may struggle to cope with the elevation and elevation gain

Wonderful trail. Did Lake Mary loop, went to Lake George and than continued to Cristal Lake. All in all, 10km of amazing views. Physical not to much demanding but not very easy as well.

I thought it was a great hike. Did it in October with leaves turning and fewer people on the trail. I would say it is on the harder side of moderate at least for the first 1.5 miles pulling out of the canyon with fairly steep switchbacks. Lots of variety on the trail. Good for dogs since water along the way. Started at the resort on South Fork road. Seemed longer than 5 miles round trip, but didn’t GPS it.

We hiked it in the beginning of Oct. - it was cold - so you may want to dress properly around that season.
It was challenging a bit but definitely worth it!!! a beautiful little lake, great view on the way down - highly recommended!

Did this as part of a loop, coming back along Duck Pass trail, Emeralds Lake trail and Coldwater George trail. Definitely felt the altitude when I set off but it got better. It was an overall steady climb up and no long strenuous sections. Started hailing and then snowing on the way down. Great views and worth the effort.

good hike, go to mammoth Crest for great views, then finish up at crystal lake for lunch

beautiful fall colors today, good hike to river, not too strenuous to bridge over river

Amazing hike. The start of the trail at the campground is not well marked. Walk towards the fence line and there is a sign. Once past the campground you get great views of Silver Lake and as you climb you see the falls and the cable car tracks straight up. Agnew Lake is small. Gem Lake is beautiful and worth the extra distance. While eating lunch an afternoon storm moved in and the temperature dropped dramatically in a matter of minutes. We watched it snow at the far side of the lake as we put on our jackets and rain gear before heading back down the trail. We got to the car just as the rain started pouring down. Great fall colors in the Aspen trees.

beautiful aspens, distant waterfalls, this trail has it all. In spring, Wooley Mules Ears. Trail obviously used by pack team but its fairly easy although the elevation/rocky terrain makes it moderate. Its the journey, not the destination! Take some time to visit the mine relecks, so cool!

Snow topped crest and fall colors, gorgeous combo. Trail is easy for the fit, moderate for us moderately fit and difficult for the unfit. Lake was blustery today but the views coming down of Horseshoe Lake, Twin Lakes, Lake George, Lake Mary and possibly Lake Maime were awesome, the vistas incredible. Trail is well marked and in great shape. If headed to Mammoth Crest the view was obstructed by clouds and 3-4 inches of snow.

Absolutely magnificent hike, walked up and the reward was stunning, was able to comfortably trail-run down.

one of the most amazing breathtaking hikes ive been on. short but worth every step.

I absolutely love this hike!! Hiking to the lake is a bit of a work out going up and definitely got your heart pumping. Although, it was short and lots of shade. So it wasn’t too bad. Very beautiful lake!! There wasn’t many people. Took our time walking around the lake and taking in the scenery. It was easy going back down the trail. I would definitely come back again. It was worth the hike.

Great, fun hike! Pretty level throughout. Lots of rocks on the Western side, but the other side is a breeze! Will probably do it again sometime!

Perfect work to reward ratio in my opinion. Lower Treasure Lake is a dreamscape once you get to it. The return hike is not bad at all.

Great short hike with amazing views. Trail crew was working on the trail. The trail was in good shape except the part the were working on.

Short but a good to see in Mammoth.

Nice hike but dusty trail. We included the side hike to the earthquake fault and then picked up Mountain View trail. Way back via downtown trail which gets confusing with all the bike trails

Epic hike! Washout's were a bit tricky to navigate... lakes were fantastic.

Easy hike with beautiful views!
But you do not really need to go anywhere from the parking lot to see the most beautiful view

Spectacular views! It is worthwhile all the hiking.
They were moments we thought we lost the trail but we found it. Monumental! A jewel in the wilderness.

Warning!! Not a good loop! Once you hit the ski runs turn around and take the same trail back to your car. We ended up walking down a steep downhill dusty road and then back along the main road through town. Would not recommend.

Easy and enjoyable trail along the lake. Parked at the Marina and took the walk around the lake as I waited for sunset. Small stream at the back of the lake where you take a boardwalk over it. I started on the right of the Marina and went counter clockwise. Be sure to stop and look back every now and again because the views really look differently from a different angle.

Short hike, but with a steady uphill climb. The trail itself wasn't terribly challenging, but the higher elevation made breathing a little more of a struggle. Fantastic hike to start off your day, with great views of the lakes below and Crystal Lake did not disappoint. Most of the hikers I saw stopped at the beginning of the lake, but the trail around to the back was easy, pretty and leads to a big sandy beach which was a great stop to relax and take in the views.

Short hike but very nice

This trail is a treat: seclusion, scenery, available water, and a good work-out due to elevation gain. It took us four and one-half hours to arrive a Grass Lake, and less than three hours to get back to Whitney Portal. Met a sole hiker on his way down the trail, and one family of four near Grass Lake. As others have stated, you get to hike a trail that is nearly void of other people. Beautiful scenery, too. I posted a few photos. One of my favorite day hikes, and no permit is required (unless you are an overnight visitor). Enjoy...

Took the trail early July. BEAUTIFUL! Not room crowded. Fished Skelton on the way. Barney was crystal clear and beautiful. Great hike!

Nice easy walk around the lake. We didn't run into too many people. It was nice and peaceful.
