Beautiful views from the top looking at the lakes and top of the falls. Have to go down to the campsite to see the full waterfall but it was worth it.

All I can say is wow! This Trail starts off at a nice gentle slope for about 1 mile, after that be prepared for some serious altitude gain. I did this hike in May 2018 and the mountains surrounding the trail were still covered in snow. there was a small river running across the trail which require waterproof boots and some careful footing. If you're looking for a real leg workout about halfway up you will come across a set of railroad tracks that were used for a pulley car to haul supplies up to the dam. You can take this track up to the dam but your legs better be in excellent shape. I measured a 37 degree incline.
I continued on to Gem Lake and it was worth the extra time and effort.

So good!!!! Loved every minute of it!

Walk down from the Visitor Center via paved paths to a closer view of Mono Lake. The VC is very interesting and worth a stop. Drive out to the east side for some up close and personal interaction with the tufas.

One of the best places to see a hill of solid obsidian - beautiful black glass - although it just looks like rock until you break it open - don't remove it. Wear good shoes. 11 miles north of Mammoth Lakes up I-395 from the I-395 and CA-203 intersections, take a left on Obsidian Dome road, and it is 2.7 miles up Obsidian, Glass Flow, and Glass Creek Rds. Dirt road to parking area; hike starts down and to the right of the dome and up a gravel bulldozed hill that takes you into the cone at the top. Really good description here: http://volcanoes.usgs.gov/volcanoes/long_valley/long_valley_sub_page_19.html [along with directions - coordinates - about 37°44.810' N, 119°01.305' W]. The hike is easy, looks like a hill up to a rock quarry. Nice distant views from the top.

Excellent hike through the snowy woods. I feel that this hike is really best during late April when you have the beautiful snow capping the mountains and the volcano itself.

Great day or overnite hike.

The snow made it difficult bit special.

It wasn't a hike as much as it was a walk on a dirt road in the sun. No scenery and plenty of dust.

Very nice up the North Fork Trail. We hiked until the snow was too deep just before First Lake.

Walked on a lot of stinky sand. Lots of flies. Couldn’t see any huge tufas you have to be on a boat for those.

We did this hike because the hikes we came here for were snowed in. This loop was very easy, steady elevation climb the entire way - so the elevation you're gaining doesn't feel much of anything. This trail follows a truck trail the entire way, and features a tiny stream crossing. There were no people other than us, very nice. At the back of the loop, the views of the mountain range is magnificent!

Awesome trail did it yesterday with my gf and our 2018 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk (stock) unfortunately no snow up there at all but still very scenic trail love it!!!

highly recommended 4x4 low range and high clearance vehicles only maybe some lockers would be good if snow!!

One of the most rewarding views ever!

The trails are clearly marked and very easy! As always make sure to bring water. The Bristlecone Pines are beautiful and I'd come back.

Great views on the way up with both Lava Tube and Seven Lakes Point for rest stops. It gets really windy at the top and there were a couple of areas where I got nervous about the narrow trail/cliff edges. Alternate option down is to loop around the Seven Lakes Trail.

One of the prettiest Alpine Lakes I've seen on the west coast. I went during the height of summer and expected a lot of traffic on the trail, because the town was packed however it was quiet and peaceful. I would recommend once getting near the lake to hike to a view point above the lake and take in a 360 view of the surrounding area. 6 hrs or so would be enough time for most people to hike and spend time by the lake swimming etc.

Drive part of this road going to the Inyo Craters Trail. Will definitely finish it next time

Perfect day for a perfect long hike (note: We continued to the far side of Gem Lake, 5 miles in from the trailhead and 5 miles back.......but if this hike isn’t rated “Hard”, I can’t imagine what would be. So to call it "Moderate" is a bit of an understatement, IMHO. However to think of it or categorize it as “Hard" might scare away a few hikers, and in truth this climb is do-able by most. Lots of loose rocks and scree. Hiking shoes or boots highly recommended. Advice: When in doubt the trails goes UP, (except on the way back, LOL)

this trail should be rated as hard it's pretty steep hike up to the lake but I would do it again great views

Wow. It is October and the colors are incredible right now. We headed up at 10am. It was hot at first then got windy and cold at Agnew. The dam was quite a site. The trail is easy to follow and maintained. It is noted as MODERATE but for me it was tougher. The altitude to begin with and the elevation climbing was what made it tough for me (I have two new stem cell treated knees!).

The weather was perfect.

Beautiful hike, back country camped right by the minaret lakes, no one around , the scenery and the gorgeous Minarets make this hike one of my favorites, it's better to camp and enjoy the shining moon on the lake, watch for mosquitoes they were way too aggressive throughout the whole hike !

It’s mind blowing!

Beautiful starter hike for beginning hikers or for getting used to the altitude if you're newly arrived to the area. Gorgeous lake and many tiny streams feeding into the lake. The best treat is a small but breathtaking waterfall along the way.

Difficult stream crossing near the top of Convict Canyon in July, fascinating geological features. You can continue this from Lake Genevieve to Edith and Cloverleaf Lakes if you follow the inlet stream up about half a mile.

Great hike but didn't quite make it to Minaret Lake. Probably spent to much time enjoying the meadows, creeks etc and didn't leave enough time to make it to the lake. It's the journey not the destination that counts and it was a great journey.

Great day hike. Awesome views. A few switchbacks early in the hike. Bring water. A few mosquitoes, but the breeze kept them moving.

Gorgeous views. Interesting terrain. We loved this hike.

Trail in great shape today. Smoke could be seen looking back toward Owens Valley due to active fires burning north of Mammoth.
