Easy walk. Absolutely recommend! Minimal effort for a maximum reward! We went on a day where it was 104 degrees and the palm trees provided great shade.

Nice destination, easy to get to, plenty of parking. Basically two oases connected by a relatively flat trail. It was over 90 degrees and bright sun, but very comfortable inside the trees. Walking between is about half sand, which is a little annoying in the heat, but worth it. The fish & crayfish at the pond are fun to see, although the latter are the reason there are no frogs. Our 12-year old twins had no problem, even in the heat, although bring lots of water - no water fountains. There is a bathroom at the start. No dogs allowed. There is even a little visitor's center with some history -- and A/C!

The view from the summit is worth 5 stars but the 2.6 miles up there are some of the most monotonous in the entire area. The trailhead shows only the Willis Palms hike— the first and only marker for Herman’s hike comes about 2 miles up the path. Skip this one!

This trail is a nice long hike. Lots of different desert scenes and the top over sees it! Vista is great & Moon Country trail is a great 4.4 miles of sand, desert, rocks, and the Preserve on the way there & back is really fun elements to go through.

Enjoyed the hike. Only passed four people in a group walking the trail, saw two folks behind me. There were no dogs and the walk back is easy if you take the wash back. I would recommend it.

Good hike. Enjoyed it

It is a state nature preserve. So no dogs. This is a frequent miss on AllTrails. Should not show dog friendly or dogs on leash.

Easy trail for single hiker or families. Sand but very manageable. The McCallum Grove and pond is cool looking and cool in temperature with so much shade. The pond holds the famous Desert Pup fish slithering around visible to even kids (in the shade). There are benches around the Grove for a rest and feeling the breeze. A sign describes the water life as you near, even mentioning the dreaded Crawfish that plays havoc on the ponds ecosystem.
Elevation change is nearly unnoticeable once away from the visitor center. The trail can even handle the three wheel strollers for little tikes. I went in January 2017 and the temperature was a slightly warm high 70's, except in the shade of the palms. It's free to hike, but the Preserve gladly takes donations. The beginning and end have an old cabin showing history of the Preserve and Oasis. Worth a walk and if it's too easy there are many other trails on the Preserve that are more challenging with great views.

Did this hike today and added the trip to the peak of Herman's Hike by crossing the wash and following the Herman's hike switchbacks to the summit. Ends up a 10.5 km hike.

Nice and easy. Rewarded by a pretty reflection pond and many palms at the end of the trail

Totally packed and dogs are not allowed. There are signs everywhere that say no dogs.

Definitely not an easy trail and it is poorly marked.

Probably would just go there and back instead of the loop.

Need to stay out of creek bed, loose sand makes more difficult

Good for beginners. Our and back, Visitors Center is informative and worth some time.

This is a large family friendly hike. We have 5 children under 10, and we all enjoy the trail.

Did this hike and Hermann's hike together in March with the wild flowers. LOVED IT - only draw back is the hike back along the road. Best is to drive 2 cars.

Absolutely Gorgeous with the wild flowers of March

A steady hike with views and some incline. Some of it goes through deep sand, like being at the beach!

If you don't like walking in sand don't go here. Took the wrong path to start. Just followed footprints but obviously they ended up lost as well. When you get around the first hill on your right don't follow the main path to the right instead head straight towards the oasis. There are a few signs when you get to oasis. Hopefully you have better luck then us.

nice trail... good clime to it.. hard to follow though
