HikingGreat!

We started by the meadow side of the trails and went first to Roosevelt Lake. Apparently, if we had gotten a little around Roosevelt Lake, the hike to Lane Lake would not have been very long. We then went up to Secret Lake, our intention was to go to Poor Lake first, but we missed the turn. The first part of the hike back is quite steep, but at the highest point, there is an amazing 360 view. The way down was quite steep.

My girlfriend and pup took on this trail a couple weekends ago. If you drive down through the campground you’ll reach day use parking to your left, conveniently located next to the restroom. It was a hot Saturday morning so patches of shade were minimal. We didn’t do the whole loop. Instead, we reached Secret Lake ~2.5 miles out and headed back. It was lightly trafficked probably due to the extreme weather. A few backpackers here and there. Watch out for horse poop! It was in several places throughout the trail. The first couple miles had some intense inclines, too. Make sure you wear the right shoes and bring tons of water. It’s worth the trek once you reach the lake. My pup and I dipped our paws and feet in it. Pack a snack or lunch to enjoy by the water. Enjoy!

Gorgeous meadows, amazing views, very light traffic, and clear lakes. Fishing was an option, would make a nice small backpacking trip as well!

Hiking

I started this trail at the west trailhead off of blue lakes road in Hope Valley. I usually check out trails on foot before I bring the horses but this time was an exception and we ended up having to turn around after about 3.5 miles. Unless you have horses experienced with LARGE granite hopping (3ft) this trail is NOT for horses. That being said, it’s one of the prettiest trails I’ve been on outside of Yosemite.

An AMAZING beautiful hike. Definitely harder coming back than going. VERY steep at the end and requires a lot of caution. Climbing back up is definitely a challenge and tiring. Great hike overall (:

Pretty easy. Just need a decent/stock 4x4. Most of the buildings are gone.

Trail is good for light to moderate walk. No shade, bring lots of water. The town has been heavily graffitied. It looks like people have actually camped in the town which would be a creepy experience.

Easy but long trail. Not much of structure at the Ghost Town. View from the top is great. Good trail for biking.

We went left at the fork and hiked the whole loop. This trail should not be described as "easy". Definitely moderate at the least. The back side of that loop is long, flat and exposed so don't forget sunscreen. The most beautiful expansive views ever!!! Secret Lake is gorgeous!!! We will definitely do this one again!

BEAUTIFUL trail! While it was a bit rocky, nothing airing down couldn’t fix. There were A LOT of people at the hot springs with several others camped near by. The river is flowing fast and high making it almost impossible to cross. We didn’t risk it however one guy did and his truck almost got swept away. Overall I’d say it was a great trip!

The trail is pretty fun and moderate for the most of it, the last mile or so is a VERY steep descent and rough going back up on the return trip. When we finally go a good view of the river, the area was full of trucks, ATVs, and looked like a huge party. kind of a let down, but the views were still gorgeous. We didn't bother that last descent and didn't make it to the river since it was so packed. Looks like there's an easier route to drive in on, so I'd suggest that before the hike.

Tough out and back if you’re looking for a day hike but the hot springs and river make it worth the effort

BackpackingRockyScramble

This trail gets 2 stars instead of 0, because the beauty and views are amazing, plus you end at a hotsprings, so that's awesome as well. If you are fine hiking/backpacking a dirt bike/4x4 rocky double track most of the time, then you'll love this trail. The trail follows the ridge line which happens to go up and down many hills and follows the path of a dirt bike which is almost straight up then straight down the other side over and over again. I loved the workout and training with my backpack, but be aware if that is not what you desire. When my husband and I backpacked in we were greeted on a Tuesday spring night by at least 5 different groups all with multiple cars. Kinda of disappointing after working so hard to be with 4 wheelers some of which got drunk that night. It was beautiful scenery and I am glad I did it and now know I should 4 wheel if I want to go back and save the hiking legs for another trail.

Its a beautiful trek! route finding was a fun challenge considering the extra layer of snow on the ground! only lost the trail a few times! the last leg is the most difficult. its a steep decline coming in, with the scree/shale rock making it that much more of a challenge. this was also the biggest part of loosing the trail, instead, we made a b-line down the canyon instead of running along the ridge which is what the map/trail indicated was the likely trail. with a more clearer idea of the trail this makes it a fairly moderate trail. if you are route-finding on your own, its probably more difficult. all’n’all! can’t wait to do it again! the rewards are well worth it!

Definitely not kid friendly, also be sure to take the right turns. The first two fork in the trail veer left then the third go right. We got lost at the third turn so it took a lot of our time and we didn’t end up finishing the hike to make it to the springs. I’ll try again when it’s a little warmer and I have a little more time. The scenery is gorgeous though!
