Hiked up to the saddle. Fabulous views from the right of the saddle down the next valley. Super beautiful hike. Swimming in the lake was great too!

Please note that the two main Lakes are called Big and Little VIRGINIA lakes - NOT Big Valley and Little Valley Lakes.

Great hike! Fantastic conditions! Ascent up steep rock pile is very treacherous as much of the switchbacks were washed out. Top 10 hike!

So many beautiful lakes and alpine meadows. Took a while to get to the top of the ridge. Air was pretty thin, so I had to stop to rest a bunch, but worth it. I'd do it again and would like to hike all the way to Green Lakes.

Beautiful trail, steep at points with some scree rock and a few water features to cross. All the lakes are gorgeous

Be careful! It is very easy to get lost while descending the peak. Very exciting and beautiful mountain. I really enjoyed the hiking. Thanks to my friend Shayan. Don’t use my recording since I was exploring the region.

Some intense uphills but a great workout. I didn’t hike the whole trail but did get the opportunity to see a few waterfalls.

Hiked this while going up to the Summit. The stretch between Big Virginia to Frog Lakes is definitely the most beautiful part of the hike. Cooney Lake was definitely my favorite. Bring lots of water because of elevation gain and altitude.

Awesome hike. It was a bit harder after passing the Frog Lakes going up to the Summit but totally worth it. I went on a Tuesday afternoon and saw around 15 people in total maybe. It’s challenging at times but a great hike with some great views. I suggest checking out Conney Lake on the way up because it was absolutely gorgeous.

Intense scramble approaching the southern side of this. We were camped on the saddlebag side towards lake Helen, this was our day hike coming down, and it was totally worth it!! If you’re coming from the north, this wall of broken rocks may deter you. It seemed solid enough both ways, but was definitely challenging. Bring a buddy.

Did a day hike on this trail to Summit Lake and back. Beautiful views, well-marked trail, plenty of water sources. No snow on the trail. Great hike!

Hiking

Made it to the summit today but not all the way to summit lake. Had 2 dogs with us and they got tired out by that exposed climb at the end. There were quite a few other hikers and backpackers but everyone put their mask on to pass on the trail. This trail is great since it has everything- forests, lakes, streams, stunning views of huge exposed mountains, views into Yosemite, a little snow and switchbacks to make your heart beat fast!! We will be back.

This can be an amazing hike or a nightmare depending on your expectations and skill level. The hike along the canyon floor is pretty spectacular; rivers, ponds, waterfalls. Highly recommend as it’s about as easy as it gets. Once you get to the back of the canyon you have two options to get up to Helen Lake; keep to the right and summit some intense switchbacks that have been washed out by rock and snow slides, or keep to the left and scramble up a steep shale and scree chute. We opted for the chute and it wasn’t all that bad if you’ve done that before. Near the top you’ll find the intact switchbacks to your right and you can jump back on the trail there. We tried the switchbacks coming back down but they were more sketch than the chute! We carefully made our way back to the chute and slid down. If you’re wanting an easy way to the Conness Lakes área head in vía Saddlebag Lake.

Backpacking

We hiked this trail on the last day of backpacking the Benson Circuit Loop, so it was downhill for us. Peeler is an awesome lake with gorgeous scenery. Very cold water felt good on our tired feet. We heard the fishing is amazing there, so bring a pole if you have time. The grade is gentle from the trailhead to Barney Lake. The hike from Barney to Peeler is full of steep switchbacks and can get really hot in the direct sun. Rest in the shady spots and refill your water from Robinson Creek, which you cross twice. Lots of good campsites along the trail and near the lakes!

Backpacking

So I didn't read the reviews prior to backpacking this. Take the saddleback trail to backpack it. It is doable but it was difficult. Stay right on the trails if your backpacking, don't get too eager and take the left trail scaling up. It very unstable for loose Rocks. HOWEVER this is one of my favorite hikes. I would do it again in an instant. Loved it
