Great trail. It is all paved with divided lines in the middle. There are lots trees and a lot of shade. I started from Hellyer Park and walked south. I enjoyed the view of the hills, the creek with a small water fall, and a couple of bridges. There is a moderate amount of traffic. Watch out for bicyclists and skate boarders so stay in the right side. I didn’t see any wild boars or tents. The best part are the restrooms on both ends of the trail. It took me an hour to walk from one end to another. Give yourself two hours to complete.

I gave this trail one star for one reason. It would be ideal for a road bike ride (which I have done) but is not a good hiking route. Pluses: The views from the top of Hellyer Avenue were great. The walk near the lake was pleasant, with lots of wildlife around, including a great blue heron strolling on the grass. Minuses: It's all pavement and sidewalks. Hellyer is a fairly busy street with drivers rushing to and from the freeway. I had to take a pedestrian unfriendly overpass to return to the park. if I hike this again, I'll do an out-and-back on the bike trail.

nice clean easy trail

Nice and easy paved path. The entrance fee to park is $6 per vehicle and machine only seems to take a credit/debit card. The trail is nice with a good lake view. Not a lot of views in second half with running past lots of buildings. Great for dogs.

Unbelievably ghetto. Drugs and the homeless. Stay away!!

This trial is great for bikers. There are few places where you can swing on floating water. It has few water fountains mounted here and there. It’s mostly shady, one of the cool trials in SJ.

sketchy area until you pass Capital expressway going south.... had a guy under CE shooting up in the pathway! once you get further south, it is a good trail.

Excellent quiet trail you can ride all the way to Morgan Hill from Hellyer Park in San Jose. Great training trail!

Half of the trail is hi-way side, Not okay if you want a nature view

Dirty, bunch of homeless tents... Went there with my kids did not feel safe at all. I don’t know how other reviewers are stating clean and maintained? Moving on to the next location in Los Gatos

Great trail to bike. Mostly flat, scenic and peaceful. Watch out for snakes - they can be hard to spot in the dry grass. Had to stop a couple of times to let the snakes cross the trail. Shade is mostly in the SJ part of the trail, be prepared to soak up some sun when you get to Morgan Hill.

Beautiful trail.

Beautiful trail after all the rains. The water levels are higher and green all around. Easy trail as it's all paved and flat surface. I didn't do the entire trail, walked for around 2hours. I don't know how this trail would be in summer as there is no shade around.

All paved trail. Started from the stagging area off Silver Creek Valley Road. Walked north to Hellyer Park. Trail was flooded 1.5. miles in. and about 1 miles south of Hellyer Park. Creek water very active from Anderson Dam and interesting. Enjoyed the time however. It's a good trail to do with friends. Quiet and peaceful. Lots of signs of wild boars feeding but no sign of the so not to worry ...just interesting to see. Hills are beautiful and green now (March).

Maybe don’t do this the day after heavy rain. The road was flooded in several places.

I have completed this section of the trail on my bicycle, it is a really pretty section of coyote creek trail in my opinion. Great city trail section for walking, running or paved bike riding but pretty heavy trafficked whenever I have gone, so be aware to look out for people jogging if you are on your bike.

Overall nice trail . People have mentioned homeless or not a great area near by. Just park in Hellyer Park by the lake you’ll be fine then go south from there. I’ve done this ride a couple of dozen times. Most of first half of trail plenty of shade second half some but not much. Also first half busier with hikers, dogs, families once you pass fishing ponds much less traffic on trail. The trails is mostly flat with some gentle rolling small hills. The park about 5 miles past Hellyer has a bathroom the next is at the end. There are a few water spots and benches every so often. Once at the end you can continue another mile, mile and half to Anderson dam the last quarter mile up to dam is kinda steep just be warned but I enjoy going there.

I really like this trail. I went today and make 30.4miles round trip. At the beginning is a little busy with kids, dogs and some people don’t follow the stay at the right rule, but once I got further is was less crowded. Overall was a nice trail. Love it

This is not a moderate trail, it was actually considerably easier than many "easy" trails I"ve done. Also the second half of the trail is on a sidewalk beside a road and next to commercial buildings of a tech park. That section was also deserted so I felt pretty unsafe as a solo female walker

Well maintained, clean, and fairly quiet early in the day.

Lake is nice, but very easy and not that big

I’ve gone the whole way on this trail a couple of times. But plenty of times just within the San Jose area. The scenery is very nice. Plenty of shady areas to stop and rest that aren’t too far apart from each other. Trail mostly follows along the 101 freeway between Morgan Hill and San Jose. A couple of mildly difficult inclines but otherwise very manageable. Enjoyed many times within San Jose with my family.

Real nice from Hellyer County Park and south. Do not go or park north of Hellyer park, as there are nothing but homeless camps, garbage, thugs, and people who look like they’re looking for trouble. A real sanitation nightmare, too. Think twice before bringing a family member who you care about in this section.

South of Metcalf road, only saw a dozen or so people, was a nice walk in the sunshine!

surrounding area is super sketchy... felt uneasy leaving my car there so I didn't get to experience the full trail
