Griffith Park is one of the largest urban parks in all of North America, and the second-largest city park in California. The area is famous for its Hollywood sign and Griffith Observatory, and for its spectacular views of downtown Los Angeles and the Santa Monica Mountains. There are many hiking trails in the area for all types of hikers.

Very rocky. You will slide a lot if you aren’t careful here. There’s parking on Lake Hollywood Dr for free and you have to walk through a residential area, but the sight is well-worth it. Also be warned that it’s all uphill and not very forgiving so if you were looking for something easy this is definitely not it. The peak was beautiful and can take you to the back of the Hollywood sign if you are still up for it after the climb.

if there are so many people that you find it difficult to park, go another time. its a short walk and beautiful when there are few people. otherwise hard pass

Great views! If you like all uphill one way and all down the other as I do, park at the Merry-go-round lot. If you go counter clockwise it’s easy to miss two key turns (yes, you DO go down the steps at the water tank), so be sure to have the app or a friend who knows the trail with you. Not too much traffic for the first and last third, but near the peak it gets a little crowded. Beautiful native flora!

Discovered some new trails in the park on this hike. Nice to fjnd some single tracks off the beaten (fire road) path.

Great trail- going for the first time it was an amazing experience getting to see the Hollywood sign up close. During my hike I also got to see 2 dear and the view on top was stunning. I would recommend going early since many people start to come just to take pictures with the sign on the back and that can cause a struggle to find parking.

Great views! It’s pretty much a stair master, so you get a good overlook of LA and pretty view of the mountains. Heavily trafficked trail.

Quick, easy trail; Lots of nice places to have a picnic at top

It was steep up and steep down but I liked it. I also took the more difficult route. LOLOLOL Looks like there is a bigger roundabout way to the top. Really neat side trails. Several benches and picnic areas. I loved the foliage.

Trail that leads to the 2 most popular viewpoints of the Hollywood sign. The first viewpoint which looks up at the sign is only about a mile in. The viewpoint from just above the sign is about a mile further up the trail with a good bit of incline the whole way. The trail will be filled with people, dogs, and cyclists. No shade..bring some water, sunscreen, and a hat. As a local hiker..this is definitely a one and done. Much better sights and trails to see in the Los Angeles area.

perfect weather ... cloud cover and 70 degrees. trail doesn't have much shade but great views of Glendale the whole way then amazing panoramic view of DTLA from beacon Hill peak.

Washed out on the steep part down through the woods from the garden down. The fire road was perfectly smooth though.

It’s an urban, super popular hike. But the novelty is worth it. Come early. Avoid the heat and minimize the crowds on the way down.

Stunning views of DTLA and Griffith Observatory

Very nice garden, something like a heaven. This place is never going to be bored. You gonna love it.

Trail is mostly uphill, it’s moderate not easy. Since there isn’t a lot of shade try to go early. And enjoy the views, they are amazing.

This place is great to see the whole city of L.A. It goes all way to the observatory and that's a great place to rest and take beautiful pictures.

A must do in LA. honestly it was more 7.5 miles but very easy to do. Definitely kid and dog friendly. There were frequent excellent views and one direction is behind the Hollywood sign and another in front. Bring lots of water at least 3 liters of water and a snack.

Awesome trail to the top. Good workout.

Nice pleasant hike. Pretty populated. Went up hill a lot. Tons of shaded areas and places to rest.

This hike will take you through a large portion of Griffith Park. Half of it on paved roads, the other half on dirt trails. You get classic far away views of the Hollywood sign, the Observatory, and downtown. It does also put you in some very risky situations at certain points. The main one being it wants you to go through the tunnel near the observatory. There is a sign on the Observatory side alerting cars to "hikers and cyclists" but most people driving in that area are bound to be tourists so be careful if your gonna go for it. It's a short tunnel. I jogged through it in 20 seconds. I also recommend doing this hike counter clockwise. It will have you go uphill on the sandy rocky loose gravel steep part of the Hogback rather than down it..which is more strenuous but less likely for you to slip. I also recommend going right at the very beginning up that steep part for the same reasons. The most ridiculous and dangerous part of this hike is the area on the map near the Greek Theatre. The map wants you to take this incredibly steep hazardous trail that connects to some smaller trails and then over to the Riverside Trail. Getting on that trail and getting off it is super difficult. Pretty sweet view at the top..but worth it? Meh... Long hike through the park with some great views..but you can do better.

Super short trail. If you want to do some actual hiking however the Hollywood trail is extremely close. The caves are very cool to see!

Really great hike for LA. I have a full guide with video, images, and parking info on HikingGuy com if you want to try it.

Perfect trail up to the observatory! It’s definitely an uphill climb but the views are worth it!

90% amazing except there’s one spot where you literally have to bushwhack to get to the prescribed trail. Other than that I loved it!
