Really good walk. Take some water.

Lots of wildflowers April/May, the ridge is the best part the rest is pretty crowded.

A bit crowded on the weekend. I went in September and it was a bit hot. But still a decent hike.

I do this hike on a regular basis. Its great for people of all fitness levels. You can park free on Ferndell till sunset. Weekends will be very busy. For a longer hike and awesome views, continue past the Observatory to Mt. Hollywood.

Took the stairs up to the garden and continued up the mountain. Bit foggy morning but still great views.

Great hike!!

An iconic L.A. hike you need to do at least once.

As a hike, this trail probably only merits three stars: a short, fairly easy path up a wide track, to views you can more easily getting driving up. What really makes this fun (especially if you're with an outgoing Golden retriever) are all the people you meet from all around the world. Ferndell, as the name implies, is a nice, shady dell, and seeing the Observatory get bigger as you get closer is fun.

Took a wrong turn along the way and came there after dark but a fun trail overall

Great hike! Love the views and the workout.

quick and easy and yet so beautiful. one of my favorite secret gardens in LA.

Super easy walking trail and open space for kids to explore

This is a great hike up to the Observatory. We parked near The Trails restaurant, cutting about 1/2 mile off our hike, which is really just walking up the road. There are some steeper spots, but my 3 1/2 year old grandson did great.

Moderate trail. Moderate traffic. Going early in the morning was a good idea. The observatory was getting crowded by 9am.

love it! been hiking the Griffith park trails since I was a baby.

This trail should not be listed for mountain biking, or at least rated as a black diamond for biking (definitely not a blue). There is a sign that says no mountain biking along the trail as well, and the entry to the Hogback trail is essentially unmarked and is not maintained. I had to go off trail to avoid the no MTB section and missed the Hogback trail entry twice.

Great easy hike with 3 1/2 year old grandson, loved the Batman caves. Playground at parking lot entrance which was nice.

Awesome trails

Nice view...

boy we found a shortcut that has a lot of overgrowth but it's very steep and it cuts off almost a mile of the trip to mount Hollywood Peak

Just beautiful, serene , calm and amazing place !!

Nice trail.

This is short and steep. You’ll get to the tree first where you’ll see the huge tree to the right and American flag to the left. Keep going on the trail and it will lead you to the back of the Hollywood sign. Wear good hiking shoes as you might slip and slide on the way down and you do have to climb around some rocks. Awesome short hike!

This is my favorite trail in Griffith Park but I start this down by the pony rides/train ride. It makes the hike longer and more of a workout. Park down by the horses and walk across the street to the start of the hike, you can’t miss it. It will join up with other trails but eventually ends at Mt. Hollywood Summit which has amazing views of downtown LA and the observatory. If you take the hike from this starting point you don’t get the best views of the Hollywood sign.
