The Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) is a U.S. National Recreation Area administered by the National Park Service that surrounds the San Francisco Bay area. It is one of the most visited units of the National Park system in the United States, with over 13 million visitors a year. It is also one of the largest urban parks in the world, with a size two-and-a-half times that of the consolidated city and county of San Francisco. The park is not one continuous locale, but rather a collection of areas that stretch from northern San Mateo County to southern Marin County, and includes several areas of San Francisco. The park is as diverse as it is expansive; it contains famous tourist attractions such as Muir Woods National Monument, Alcatraz, and the Presidio of San Francisco. The GGNRA is also home to 1,273 plant and animal species, encompasses 59 miles (95 km) of bay and ocean shoreline and has military fortifications that span centuries of California history, from the Spanish conquistadors to Cold War-era Nike missile sites.

More like 3.5 stars. Not a bad trail but wouldn’t do it again soon.

Perfect sunny day in the bay. Trip was warm with a cool breeze. We could actually see the farallon islands which are 27 miles away from the top of Hill 88. Easy hike if you walk slow and moderate if you hike quickly.

Nice hike with great views of the ocean.

Beautiful trail. A bit slippery in actions due to mud, but not difficult.

Love this location. Recently visited on Black Friday as a great day to avoid the crowds. It was less crowded than normal and we found a parking spot in the main lot. This year, the first major rain storm hit the day before, so everything looked fresh and clear. Great views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Marin Headlands. The trail has lots of stairs that help with the surface not to be washed out. The trails are dog friendly, so there were many hikers with their furry friends in tow. The trail is usually fairly crowded, but mostly fellow hikers are good natured. The views are spectacular and well worth the trip. Lots of photo ops.

This was a great choice for my first hike using this App. The entire hike of about 5 miles was on a paved path. The weather couldn’t have been any more perfect. There are great views when you reach the top. The incline was pretty steep at times so even though the level is “Easy” that is something to be aware of. I would definitely do this hike again.

Love the trail with great views.

beautiful and no traffic early in morning

The trail is more so 11 miles to complete the full loop. You cannot complete the loop because of a small branch of the trail on private property. The hike has some steep portions of trail. I highly recommend bringing some trekking poles if possible. Overall, I think that the trail was very beautiful, especially from the views of the ocean and valleys once you get higher up! The only reason I gave this hike 4 stars is because I had to walk along a highway for about 2-3 miles to get back to my car. You should make sure that you don’t have to do that part after dusk like I did. I was able to complete the portion of the trail marked on AllTrails in a bit over 3 hours (before walking on the highway back to my car). It was nice to pass through the horse ranch at the end of the trail. I saw a group of quail on the trail as well!

Great local hike.

Beautiful trail! I would recommend going clockwise. Lots of ocean and mountain views ending at the beach!

I really enjoyed the variety on this trail.. ocean views, beaches, woods, expensive homes and Golden Gate Bridge. Its amazing to have such a nice wooded area in the middle of the city. I started at 10AM and it was a really foggy day.. so no views of GGB from Lands End until I got very close to the bridge when the fog lifted for a while.. trail was pretty busy the whole way.

Spectacular views. Starts in the woods, goes through a neighborhood, ends along the beaches. Well maintained trail with plenty of steps (some optional) for your cardio! I was so pleased to be able to get away from the city and enjoy the ocean vistas. Highlight of my trip.

dope trail to do shrooms at!

Good fun with nice views of the bay and the bridge. I started early in the morning so it was still quite foggy. If you want blue sky and sunshine don't start this at 8am. I had a great time!
