I love this trail! I’ll take my dog out here early in the morning on weekends for a couple hour hike. The views are consistently beautiful and the trail is moderately challenging. I haven’t hiked the whole 22 mile out and back yet, but plan to someday!
I’m looking forward to seeing how this trail changes throughout the seasons.
Watch out for ticks though!!

The ascent was rough for me. But worth the view!!

Great hike. I did it on a foggy day and couldn’t see the sun at all, but it was still a great hike. The terrain is pretty steep at times, which makes it a great workout. Get good shoes. I’d do it again on a sunny day to get good views.

Gorgeous views....steep but short and well worth the climb!

I’ve done this trail from beginning to end and back again! A few times! I love all of it, the views are amazing and so are the trails and steps! It’s one that I will keep doing until I feel accomplished with my finish time, and even then, I will still do it because I personally like it!

Def not easy, especially if you have any fear of cliffs and steep inclines near the edge of the Pacific but beautiful and peaceful. Also make sure to google map the parking lot, the directions here will just strand you on 1.

Mostly a walk to the beach (not much hiking). Make sure to take the stairs at the end to the top for a nice view of the beach and the greenery around!

Beautiful hike.

It’s a steep uphill climb if you start from Shoreline Highway (CA 1). The tall pine tree provide plenty of shade. I brought my senior dog on the hike. The climb was tough for him but downhill wasn’t too bad. Cows graze at the start of the trail.

Wonderful hike! As someone who loves romping through the wilderness this was so fun. The trail is pretty hard to find, but look for the call box, and if you start walking through some fallen trees and find a steel cable, you’ve got it. I parked in the dirt pull off right before the call box. At the end of the redwoods, you night lose the trail, but if you head towards the more open yellow grass, you should be able to find it again.
Went in August and the waterfall was still going nicely! The water was cold but nice to dip feet in. Didn’t get any poison oak/stinging nettle on me, but could definitely see it, so just be careful!
There are ropes to help you where it gets steep, and I almost fell a few times. Just go slow and be careful!
Definitely recommend.

There are so many trails; even though we follow the direction, we still got lost 3 times and had to trek back. At one point the trail showed on the map/GPS doesn’t exist. Wasn’t sure I was going to make it through; but I did, yay! We got some sun, fog, and rain, too during our hike. Was a great hike though - loved it.

great hike very good workout. will definitely do it again.

Nice leisurely walk to Tennessee Beach, great side trails which we ended up doing the trail to Muir Beach the following weekend.

Nice crowd, nice restrooms too!

I feel like this trail was pretty moderate. If you aren’t use to hiking up pretty steep inclines, this hike may not be for you. Make sure you don’t miss the Wolf Ridge trail head. Heading up near Hill 88 had me distracted and I never saw it. If you hit the graffiti then head back down the hill and look to your right for the trail head.

Stunning hike with beautiful views. The hills are brutal— make sure you’re wearing shoes with traction. And bring sunscreen.

Nice trail: strep up for the first half mile & then gently and finally steeply down. Fine for our medium size dog. Nice little beach. Great views!

I went last month and it was my life longest hike to date. It was a good workout going up and resting at Muir Beach but the trek back...9 miles out and back...thank God for my beautiful pics!

Hardly anyone on this trail which is hard to find close to SF. Great trail to do with doggos but no water for them anywhere at this time of year so carry extra! A couple options along the way to leave the ridge and meet route 1 if you want a shorter hike. No ticks and a couple cows that minded their own business.

The views! I recommend to anyone visiting the area to make one of these trails a must. This was very different than hiking in New England and so glad I had the chance. So cool to hike coastal trails like this. For me this was just about 10.5 mi total as I hiked in from Tam Jct. and didn’t take the detour to the beach. Little did I realize I could have added Rhubarb trail instead of the TN Valley rd. Mostly solid footing and a few challenging sections that get your heart pumping. Next time I will start later in the day to give the fog more time to clear out for even better views.

This is a great hike! The first portion has quite a bit of traffic, but it thins out the further you go. Great views if you take the 1.8 (rather then the .8) off shoot to the bridge. A lot of stairs on that route, so it kicks up the workout a notch too. If you are a beginner definitely go the .8 route on the road. Loved this hike! We were able to make it ten miles by taking the longer route and one offshoot to a lookout point.

Beautiful trail. Watch out for the poison ivy

Great views of Ocean Beach, the Sutro Baths, huge coastal trees and beautiful wild flowers along the Cliff House Walk at Land's End. At low tide can climb up onto the big rocks just offshore. But be careful when the tide comes back in! We had a great day.

Fun hike! It gets steep at one point which makes going down a little difficult but just take your time and use small steps and your hands for support.

Dear older children who are being dragged here, it's all up hill (very pretty) but wear your Nikes and your work out clothes and a hat (for the wind, very windy, very). Feels much longer than a mile, you'll have a story for sure!!! Take your pictures before the hike, trust me.

challenging and worth the effort. we went up the paved way and my 7 year old made it up with me. once you get up to the top the old Nike missle post and buildings are great to look at and take pictures of. the view of course is a awesome.

The beginning is steep, and it was pretty foggy the day we went. The fog was actually kind of cool, though. Good 1:30ish hour hike.

Easy short mellow hike with some short steep spots. Good view at the top.

My favorite trail in SF

The part that goes from parking lot to Rodeo Trail is wrong— the path is covered in brush, unmaintained and impassable. I backtracked and went further along the road to get on the trail. After that it was good. Karl the Fog was in full effect. I got lost as usual. Couldnt run strava cos of battery drain but it feels like I ran at least 13.1
