In the peaks of Diamond Heights in western San Francisco sits Glen Canyon, which hosts varied habitats that existed in the area before development occurred throughout the city. The canyon occupies 70 acres and is open to the public. According to BayNature.org, "Glen Canyon contains one of the few stretches of historic free-flowing Islais Creek. Good for a pleasant stroll or outing with the dog, the park also hosts a community center, sports fields, children's camp, and tennis courts."

A little crowded.and noise from road, but very unique rock formations and beautiful ridge views

this park is so cute! we entered at Elk and Chenery St and walked the loop. we took our two dogs (one is a super senior) and they both really enjoyed the hour long (or so) walk around the park. our senior dog struggled a tiny bit because of the many stairs but overall was fine. as for us humans, it was a very easy walk with a nice view.

Great spot if you live in the city. Easy enough to bring the kids along as well.

Contained trail. There's plentiful parking and you can see everything from the higher parts of the trail. Not a lot of solitude though or variation in scenery.

What a neat and unique hike in an urban area. Glen park is wonderful with rock formations and blackberry bushes throughout. Most importantly, it’s a dog friendly hike. We thoroughly enjoyed the views up top on twin peaks. A bit breezy, but a worthwhile trek.

Sometimes it’s hard to believe we have this little beauty right in the city. Great short hike or jogging route.

My backyard. Hidden SF gem

So beautiful, it almost feels like you're away from the city.

This is hidden gem in SF. Well maintained trails great for hiking, taking a stroll, trail running, kid-friendly, and dog-friendly. It’s a quick and easy 2 mile loop but we took an hour just strolling about and training our dogs in the process. It was a windy and cloudy SF day, nice and cool. Halfway through the loop there’s an awesome scenic vista into the canyon and forest. It looked magical in the mist.

A hidden treasure in the city. Great for kids, dogs and trail runners looking for a quick workout. Adjacent to a wonderful, recently renovated playground with picnic tables and full service restrooms; pick up sandwiches or snacks at Glen Canyon Market on Chenery St before hand.

Very nice and safe for kids

Beauty in the middle of the city. Such a surprise!

Very good work-out trail. You can get rather consistent incline all the way from Glen Canyon to the top of the twin peaks. The Glen Canyon portion is extremely pleasant now after the park renovation. Walking in the canyon, you forget that you are in the city, because you are surrounded by woods and don’t see paved roads/vehicles — that is one unique characteristic of Glen Canyon making it a better hike to me than other nearby hills such as Bernal height. Reaching the twin peaks is quite rewarding with The unobstructed view of downtown. The only unfavorable part on this trail is that you need to cross a big intersection with traffic light, and then cross back and forth on the vehicle road leading up to the twin peaks several times.

Great views from Twin Leaks, and surprisingly nestled away trail in Glen Canyon. Not bad for urban hiking!

Easy, pleasant hikes. Moderate traffic but we went on a warm Saturday. Parking was easy on the nearby neighborhood. My son who’s disabled and has some issues with walking long distances Loved it! There were stairs for the steeper parts and lots of places to stop and rest on benches or tree trunks.

It was a nice trail! Not hard at all, no big steeps! The trails in Glen Park are pretty, and the view of SF you get at the top of Twin Peaks is as best as it gets.

Enjoyable hike. The hike includes the only publicly accessible stream in San Francisco.

Very nice little hike. We liked exploring the stream w/ bridges and hanging out on the huge rock structures.

It's a great place to escape from the city. Not many choices to trail on but I do appreciate that it's located so nearby and that it's dog friendly. Has a small creek, lots of beautiful greens, and rock structure in few places.

Glen Canyon Park boasts easy to tougher trail-walking options, including the new Creeks to Peaks from Islais Creek the top of Twin Peaks, a lively 4 mile round trip. Birding is terrific especially morning and evening. Listen!!

Fun little hike in the city without a full day's commitment. Some great areas meandering along Islais Creek and also great views of the canyon itself when the trail winds out from the canyon floor to the edges and boulders up top. Popular with dog walkers and people of all ages.
