Watch out for the thorns

must see. mountain views don't get any better.

great trail up to the top of the switchbacks and then it's one and a half miles of rocky pain without much shade until you come to one of the most amazing mountain lakes you will ever see at summit lake. after the lake is a reasonable wooded climb up to a mountain pass and then it's all downhill through gorgeous woods.

Really enjoyed this trail. Nice changes in scenery from beginning to end - was a little sad to see the burn areas from last years fire. Fairly shaded until you hit the burn spots. Great views.

We did this hike in conjunction with the Big Stump Grove Loop. The Hitchcock Meadow Trail isn't signed very well, which probably accounts for the lack of hikers. Solitude and a pleasant walk in the woods are the main attractions here. The trail itself gradually descends out of Kings Canyon National Park and into adjacent Forest Service lands in the Giant Sequoia National Monument. Hitchcock Meadow is reached in about a mile from the trailhead. Although the trail continues beyond this point, it's a good place to turn around. The trail is also designated for snowshoe and cross-county ski travel, so you'll see plenty of orange disks on trees along the route.

This was the very first Alltrails trail I have ever tried out. The trail itself was well worn and very easy to follow. The trip itself was very interesting because, along the trail, are remnants of the fire that burned in the area a couple of years ago. The meadow itself was lush and beautiful, with large stumps, a small creek, and tall grass. This trip was myself, my wife, and our 3 and 6 year old children; nobody had difficulty with this trail. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth a walk! I will be coming back here again either on a cloudy day or perhaps sunset time to get photographs when the light is less harsh.

great offroad driving family fun

The directions that transferred to google maps didn't take me to a trail at all. The drive was gorgeous, but I didn't get to got for a hike.

Great trail!! Easy medium and hard!! Depending on what route you take. Very pretty views. Drive takes a while for you to start to really hit the heart of it. So make sure to fill up on gas before going. Take a buddy to double the fun.

You have to be alert on this trail as this past winter had some harsh storms that caused trees to fall on a few different sections. There are ways around them, but you'll want to watch out for the tire marks or you'll end up pretty confused, and then have to back up a good distance. There are some technical spots, but I ran the trail with someone who had done it a few times before and it was no problem; we aired down before we started. You'll also want to take it easy and pay attention to where you're going because, even going slow and taking all the care I could, I got some rocks bumping my undercarriage. Overall the trail is really nice, has some awesome views, has a lot of shade, and plenty of places to pull over. On the downside, its a pretty popular trail and, while that's good if you're running solo and find yourself in need of help, it kind of sucks when you get stuck behind vehicles that don't really have any business on the trail and slow you down to a crawl.
