Most excellent!

the trail along the Creek/river has been cleared and is ready, looking great... I think it is still closed officially. Met some hikers and trail runners nevertheless..one of my favorites.
On a good day (no coastal fog)the views at the top are fantastic.

The trail will re-open this month according to the Friends of Garrapata Facebook page!!! It's been closed since July 2016. I cannot wait to hike up there again!

Does anybody know if this is still closed?

Quick walk great view

This is a hike! Such an awesome view from the peak! Hard as all hell, but we'll worth it!

Whale watching nearby, saw baby gray whales swimming with mamas! Short hike to beach. Nice quick stop

beautiful area, and lots of different trails to go on. from easy to hard it's whatever you're feeling!

Still closed

Parking makes it easy to access the trails, easy loop by the coast!!! This will be my lets take a drive and go for a quick hike.

i think it might still be closed. i've hiked it at least 50 times. The first part is full of cacti on the left and the creek on the right. It then turns into a luminous green paradise of fern and redwoods. one time i saw a huge ladybug hatch, probably 40 sq. feet, magnificent yet a little creepy.
There are beautful chiseled log steps in sections. The sounds of birds and the babbling creek are an extra treat! After you crawl up more washed out steps at the half way it turns into open scrub. The ocean view ahead makes it all worthwhile. This is a must do when it opens!

Very steep and challenging but 100% worth it.

Start out going right and you will walk alongside the canyon with gorgeous views of small waterfalls. Great variety of terrain and strenuous to burn a good amount of calories. Definitely worth the effort to the top!

Did this hike in April 2016. The hike and scenery were fantastic with the wild flowers in full bloom. The back half of the trail was severely eroded. It resulted in gullies that made it dangerous and more difficult than it actually was. Poles a must.

The scenery was absolutely stunning! When the trail is completely finished it will be awesome . Standing on the top of Whaler Peak is such a sight to see .

Fabulous views!

Trail is marked closed but decided to take a peak and then just kept going. A lot of the trail towards the cliffs were overgrown with plant life (must be aware of stepping due to small animals holes) but nothing truly considered dangerous. Beautiful views, lots of bunnies on the trail!! The flowers gave off a wonderful sweet smell. Amazing easy trail.

The trail to go up the "mountain" was closed also, due to what looked like a landslide removing the stairs. Definitely wasn't safe looking and stayed away from there.

Still closed (5/27/17)

When you are atop Whale Peak at Soberanes Point, you feel like you are on top of the world. A great place to whale-watch.

Beautiful loop, easy trail, you can find some spots to stick your feet in the ocean/ tide pools to make it more of a challenge.

One of the best trails ever. The views are majestic. It's quite hard.

This is my favorite trail in the whole world. It's challenging but well worth it. Make sure you have great shoes with good threads or be prepared to slide down the mountain. It can also get cold and windy any time of the year. Dogs are NOT allowed -- please respect the signs.

The northern side of the trail is very washed out, we went counter clockwise around the trail and came down on that side. It may be easier to go up that direct as it was hard to get a good foothold while coming down. Over half of the trail is in the sun so be prepared. There was also an almost vertical climb down in the redwoods.

Second time doing the loop and the second time was a lot easier!! Great hiking Trail! The Ocean breeze is amazing

Great mix of red wood trees, open barren hills and nice little streams. It can be strenuous hike for a non experienced hiker. The view from the highest point which is close to 1880 feet is amazing. Do carry a lot of water as during summer days you will get dehydrated really fast during the climb. You will also find tons of lizards, cactus and poison ivy, so be careful.
