Fantastic hike this morning! Weather was perfect, clear and sunny and we went early to avoid the brutal east county heat. (even when it's not hot.....it's hot) Snakes are out so keep eyes open. The falls are beautiful, such a marvel of nature.

The falls area gets very crowded, even with limited permits. We were lucky to go early and be able to sit at the falls for a while before a majority of people came in.

Hike is downhill to the falls and all uphill coming back. Bring plenty of water.

Secure your permit before you go and read up on regulations. We added hikers to our permit because a party was over the limit and was about to be turned away. There is a limit to the number in your party.

Gorgeous hike all around and the scenery is amazing. Can't wait for next time!

Take a gallon of water!
Wear lug soles.

This trail was okay. Not "must do again," but nice enough. I did this trail alone with my dog on a Friday afternoon and there was NOT A SINGLE OTHER SOUL AROUND. Normally I'm happy to find less trafficked trails, but this was creepy since I was by myself!

Scenic but rocky. Watch your feet. Some graffiti:(

Great hike, not crowded, and beautiful hills all around. In mid-May the falls were down to a trickle and pools were green, so probably better in Feb/Mar. It gets hot and there is very little shade cover along the trail. Be sure to bring plenty of water especially if you’re a beginner hiker. The ranger told us that people frequently have to be rescued because they underestimate the hike and the direct sunlight. But if you’re in good shape and hike regularly you should be fine.

My family and our dog hiked this on Mother's Day. It was cool in the shade but warm in the sun, so layers were good. My kids are 8 and 11, and this was a very easy hike (I left my boots in the garage at home and did this in my husband's birks, 2 sizes too big). I will say that there are many trail junctions, so a map is necessary to know how to stay on the loop that you want.

The meadow was gorgeous and this is one of the most fragrant hikes I've been on in California (pines). We saw a handful of mountain bikers (which this trail is great for!) and a few walkers, but many long stretches alone. Overall, a very pleasant and peaceful walk.

Best hike ever

Real short and easy hike, but beautiful view.

Beautiful, sunny day today. Yellow, white, and purple wildflowers were in bloom. Ran into about a dozen people during the hike (mid-day), about 50/50 mountain bikers to hikers. Nice combination of exposed and limited shade. Very easy grade. Lots of birds - spring is in the air. Dry - bring water and chap stick. Wonderful, pine tree smell!

I stumbled upon this trail by accident and am glad I did. The view at the top is incredible and the trail itself is very quiet. It’s windy at the top so bring a lightweight jacket.

great trail, could wander around there all day! will definitely be going back to explore more!

Good, steady moderate trail. First half terrain, pure mountains and second half pure high desert. Great views of Anza Borrego and the walk through Laguna meadows is beautiful. Damage from the prior fire very evident in some sections. If your on foot keep an eye out for the mountain bikers... Laguna meadows seems to be a popular trail for them.

Great hike if planned well. The elevation change is gradual, so you can easily do six miles in two hours. Make sure you buy a pass online or you won’t be able to reach the falls. This hike is almost always monitored by rangers. Go in the winter or spring after it rains, but not after a torrential downpour or you will have a tough time crossing the river. Watch for rattlesnakes. My dog and I almost stepped on one yesterday, and I’ve run across rattlesnakes two of three times I’ve done this hike. The ranger also reported mountain lions on the trail this week. Dogs are allowed as long as the weather is cool and they are on leash.

Great weather! Nice easy decent to the waterfall with a view that totally makes the climb back up worth it. Bring lots of water for the accent because while it’s pretty gradual it has no shade. The rangers recommended about a gallon per person.

Nice hike. Great little falls at the end

This is a trail less traveled compared to others around the area. It’s cool because it’s like Forrest hiking. Once you get off the PCT it does get narrow and lots of manzanita bushes. Looking at the antenas on top is a turn off but the views are pretty damn good. Comfortable hike.

I intended to do this as a trail run as it looked easy and flat, and it was actually pretty good for trail running; however there are sections of the trail that basically disappear; or get cut across by jeep tracks; or are otherwise hard to follow. If you look at my recording I look like a drunk person going back & forth across the "trail" trying to find it and go the right direction. I was not expecting a navigational challenge on this route! I was never afraid of being lost; it was pretty wide open and I could hear the freeway.

But it was uncrowded and pleasant. It was fun seeing the bear from Lions, Tigers, and Bears from afar. There were a couple of bow hunters there, and a canine search & rescue team were training - it was a little disconcerting to have a German shepherd run toward me at one point, but I quickly realized he was not interested in me. The "trail" goes through oak trees and along a streambed, and out onto a wide open meadow with cows here and there.

Incline trail. I grade this trail moderate/hard. We parked on street that led to trail, why drive? The views were okay, the leg workout was good. Keep in mind the trail is full of uneven ground, holes. If your okay with the incline being most of your trail, this is for you! Wish I could post trail pictures for you, don’t know how though.

Gate is closed 2miles before parking lot and notice posted saying Emergency closure April 20th through May 18th, 2018. I’ll try to post photo of sign warning $5,000 fines for being in area.

Perfect weather to do this. Nice breeze back on the way up. Still a challenge though. Left at 8am at 55 degrees and it was in the mid 70s on the way back up. Enjoy!

I really liked this hike, great scenery and views getting down to the waterfall and the waterfall/pond was beautiful.

I was the first one on the trail at 6 30 am and passed a lot of people on the return so I would advise going early if you want tranquility.

Awesome Hike! Kids loved it and Mother Nature Gave us a lot of shade along with some nice breeze through the openings of the canyons. Kids will Be Kids, bring extra socks and shoes, A Good possibility they will purposely splash crossing the creeks.

We started at 6am and got back as it started to warm up. It was the perfect time to go! It was so peaceful to hear the water running and so pretty.

My primary concern was getting my Scion xB up to the trailhead. I left early in the morning and drove a slow 10 mph but it managed! Decent amount of water on the falls.

Awesome! Just beware...where there is water, there be a-holes

Finally a hike that challenged me. The way to the falls is downhill, so coming back up was brutal. I was the first one on the trail today around 7 am, had my permit printed and the ranger checked for it. I think it’s great that they keep a log of those on the trail and their return. There is a restroom at the small parking lot, but you can park on the curb as well, no parking permit needed. No shade on the trail, so while it was cool in the morning heading down, it was hot and sunny on the way up. The fall itself was SO beautiful! It was so peaceful to be there alone but then everyone else showed up. Lots of wildflowers on the trail, beware of snakes.

Beautiful views, great water fall with fish in the pond. Strenuous hike back to the trailhead. Did it with my 3 small kids. Only my 7 cried. Tough but fun hike.

Fun hike!!! Enjoy!!!

Really enjoyed the hike. Shady and small creeks to cross made it very enjoyable. The car ride to get there was bumpy but also fun. Not a difficult hike even for small dogs.
