fire road is great to walk on. lots of little frogs at beginning of trail. portable restrooms, benches, flowers, and trash cans. good hike if you like inclines.

Beautiful walk on a paved trail with other trails forking off. There is opportunity for lots of bird watching as well.

This trail is a shorter version of the Johnson Pasture trail, mentioned separately on AllTrails. From the parking lot as identified on the map, 0.6 mile on the Thompson Creek trail, paved and flat as can be, then turn left and bear right right after you turn, up a little hump on the path and you’ll be on the trail as identified.. Another 0.3 miles and you are at the junction—going right (doing the loop counterclockwise, takes you on a killer paved uphill fire road which starts steep and gets steeper! Really the only good thing about this trail if a workout is the goal. Up the road (less than a mile) you are at the radio/telephone towers area. Continuing from there is a little more interesting—dirt road with some trees and bushes. Finish the loop and you’ve had a decent, though not all that challenging, workout. Doing the loop clockwise is easier, I think, as you’d be going down the steep paved road. Either direction, back on Thompson trail to the parking lot. Okay to kill a couple of hours. The whole trail is sun-exposed, though, with little shade anywhere.

relaxing hike. moderate hike.

Got lost around this but great place to link up to Marshall canyon below

Probably more of a 4.5 but I really enjoyed this trail. Was able to run on a Thursday morning at 6:30. Parking at that time was no problem. Saw a handful of people along the way but had several long stretches where I was all alone. Thought the views from the top were great. Trail seemed well maintained.

wondeful!

Parking is tough. Drive to the top of Mountain Ave. in the city of Claremont. There is street parking there with a small trail access point that leads to all the same trails above Claremont. These trails are used extensively. The view at the top is ok. This is a blah hike to me.

Now so much a hike, but this trail is great for a walk, jog or bike and you can choose dirt or asphalt for your activity of choice. I began and finished at the west end (Town Ave).

Great trail. Probably my favorite. Really nice views once you’re getting higher. Very busy trail so I definitely recommend getting there as early as possible because parking fills up really fast.

free street parking.trail head inside the higginbotham park. walk straight into the back part of the park, the trail head is at the right side after children's playground.steep at the beginning about 1.2mile then up and down flat path then passed the electric tower ,there is paved road along the way to the end(crossing Thompson creek trail). we followed the Thompson all the way back to the park about a mile long. no shade bring enough water. quiet trail not traffiked. good work out.

entrance to trail from parking lot for Thompson creek trail and opposite the horse staging area. I took the gravel road up and turned back to go down half way to avoid the paved road on the other side. nice little hike to get the blood pumping!

Nice paved urban city trail along the Thompson flood basin wash. Lots of mature trees and native plants. recommend go at day break to see some wild life,. by 8am it's very busy with traffic. Parking on Mills Ave is $7.00 with no restrooms along trail. From there you walk down hill, parking at end of Indian Hill Ave or at church near Baseline there no fees. At horse stables you can access the hill trails for more strenuous hiking.

Great hike/walk. Will get your heart rate up! Was well maintained.....

Great workout! Elevation gains! Beautiful views! So local! I love this loop!

A very fun trail to get lost/explore. There's many off trails but if you follow everyone else you'll probably end up at the benches on top of the mountain. Since the rain, the hills looked so green and pretty. A moderate hike for a beginner but easy and enjoyable for the more experienced hiker.

Loveeee love love this trail I entered the trail on the top of Mountain Avenue, the very top. I climbed the whole trail went all the way down to Thompson Creek Road, and decided to cut through the Higginbotham steps, like other former hikers that have reviewed here, they are not lying, those steps are very strenuous, they get very hot, there’s almost no shade, take it easy if you feel lightheaded, and make sure to bring lots and lots of water like five bottles, and maybe a protein bar depending on if you ate breakfast or not. I would not want to do this trail during the hottest part of summer, definitely do it in the morning if you do.!

Nice for trail running

great hike we are not in shape took us 3 hrs just starting to hike so if this is you give yourself time take breaks to take in scenery and enjoy
