Good trail. Up and down hills.

Hiked most of this trail mid May, great hike, didn’t run into too many other people. Take water, there is little to no shade and it gets hot.
When we returned to our car, our windows had been smashed and our belongings stolen. A woman pulled up and said this happened to her at another nearby trail a month or two prior.
I would love to hike this trail again, but can’t risk my car being broken into again.. hiker beware! Do not leave anything in your car!

Heading into summer: tall grasses, narrow path on the Vallecito portion of the trail Today, had a mountain lion sighting 150 yds from the main trail and a different unseen animal growled at us near the creek on Vallecito trail. While on the wide trails, very enjoyable.

Pretty decent hike but would rate it as hard. It’s easy to moderate. Beautiful views of rolling hills and reservoir. Not much shaded. Good to be done in winters/spring.

Great quick hike with many hills and nice views!

Check the map ahead of time and plan around the construction. A section of the loop is closed and I do not recommend going through that area as it is a hazardous trail with lots of new poison oak growth. The trail system is quite extensive though, and you may be able to find an alternate loop with the trails that are open.

Otherwise it was a great hike. About 3-3.5 miles in I started to feel some distance from civilization, with only the occasional airplane sound reminding me that I was close to town.

There were some truly stunning moments in Oak Savannah type landscape. I saw a bobcat, woodpecker, and heard something that sounded like wild turkeys.

A great option if you’re looking to get to a quiet place in the woods without many other people.

Great trail. Wide path throughout, quiet, some amazing views and lots of sun. I would categorize on the low end of Hard.

Definitely did not live up to the "hard" rating

Beautiful and excellent trail run

Great views from the Bald Peaks Trail. However the Chisnantuck Trail is closed due to construction until spring 2018 and it's not possible to complete the loop.

Beautiful views of the lake and mountain. My heart was pumping on the section of the Los Cerritos before you turn onto the Pena trail. It was a nice afternoon stroll for a fall day.

saw 30 inch rattle snake

Took around 4 hours at a moderate pace with a few breaks. The ascent isn't as difficult as some of the other hard trails. There are some good views of the reservoir from atop the bald peaks.

Good balance of flat and slope areas. Very nice view of the valley and city with many wild flowers in the spring. I will definitely do it again.

What a GORGEOUS hike! So much wildlife this morning near the pond (which I guess is the watering hole). Lots of bullfrogs at a different pond along this trail about 1.5 miles in as well. The flowers were blooming, the grass was tall and green, and there were lots of bugs, but no biting bugs. The dark oak trees contrast beautifully against the light green wavy grass. There's lots of shade and sun and is in perfect condition to hike right now before it gets too hot. We did all 7 miles (both loops) and were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful views and wildlife we saw. Bring lots of water, definitely wear sunscreen, and maybe wear a hat in the next couple months. There is a bit of steep incline between the loops, but it doesn't last for a long time.

Keep the trail clean and enjoy!

A nice trail although I'd keep a careful eye out for rattlesnakes. Other than that an easy trail for someone who hikes regularly. Also, this is to be expected but when hiking along bodies of water but be wary of insects! There are a lot along the reservoir.

We did the shorter hike. Nice incline and decent view. Not a lot of shade but definitely a lot snakes...rattlesnakes!!!

Lots of people on weekends, but only on the small loop. Great trail if you hit the back of the park!

Rather a moderate run and obviously better suited for cold weather (like today) than hot. Very few people too.

Pros: Lots of hills, so you definitely get a good workout. Not very trafficked at all on a weekday morning.
Cons: I'd say about 90% of the area has absolutely no shade. I'd probably save this one for fall when it's cooler. I also found the trail signage and map to not match-up in a lot of areas.

Great hike and beautiful scenery. Was a great workout!

Great hike! The journey through this area was tedious and definitely worthwhile! I went by myself but think its better in a small group! Careful for the incline, there's a lot of them :)

Great trail, great views. Looking forward to walking the whole trail next time.

Good hike with some hills. Make sure to bring sunscreen, it's pretty open with limited shade. Dog and horse friendly with lots of parking. Great place to go if you like looking at wild flowers.

beautiful wildflower hike. great views too.

Monday, April 11, 2016

This is a great trail with beautiful view of the reservoir. Wildflowers are plenty in spring. The route can get very muddy right after rains so have to be careful. The trail is also mostly open space with very little shaded area.
