Super fun for the dogs! The redwoods are beautiful. The creek isn’t very impressive, but enough to cool off the paws. Be sure to give the pups a good bath; lots of ticks and foxtails around. Google maps has the trailhead and parking lot accurately if you put in “Byrne-Milliron Parking Lot.” There are statues and trinkets around that were fun to look at, plus a beautiful vista at AJs.

4/26/2018 Columbine, heather, sticky monkey flower, trillium, Solomon’s seal, salmonberry and wild blackberry and strawberry, mints, nettles, wood violets, miner’s lettuce, I could go on and on! Everything is blooming right now so get out there! Great off leash dog spot and never too crowded, especially on weekdays. All very uphill, but there are some spectacular views of the bay, Monterey peninsula, Santa Lucia Mountains, and from certain parts of the Pajaro hills.

Whichever direction you do this loop, you are guaranteed a workout. Serious inclines get you to some seriously worthwhile views. The forest is well-maintained and lovely mixed second growth redwood forest, with a very large and very old albino redwood at the end of the Milliron spur, no longer a loop due apparently to logging activity. This is a gem of a place. I love to bring my dogs here and let them run up and down the hills until they’re tired. Bring a pen to sign the book in the mailbox at Eagle in Tree.

Not the easiest place to find, but the hiking was pleasant and pretty easy.

It’s like 70% uphill. Right from the get go but it’s a great little hike. Sweet views of Santa Cruz county

What a happy surprise! We were in the area and wanted a nice little hike to do and boy was this special. Everything about this hike was wonderful, the challenge, the hidden and not so hidden memories of a wonderful man who cared for this land, the views, and the enchanted welcome feeling of the forest. We will definitely do this hike again when we are in the area. Dog friendly!

There are a lot of trails here for such a condensed area. All of the trails are good and there is good elevation gain.

Improved entrance road, all trails open, beautiful time of year. Take the 3 bears loop and the great white redwood tree too. We do this counterclockwise

This is such a fun hike. So many things to explore and find with all the offerings people leave. It never disappoints.

Always looking for dog-friendly hikes and this is a good one. Not long but you have good elevation gain. Halfway through you summit with 2 great views. At summit vista binoculars are stowed away for hikers to use (look for a green mailbox).

Warning: tricky to find trailhead!

Nice hike, lots of shade. Part of the hiking trail very narrow and lots of poison oak. Trails poorly marked. Yet the hike is basically up then down. Hard to get lost.

Unfortunately we did not see Samantha's comment below and followed our GPS directions which ended up at the gated and locked bridge. With no cell service we weren't able to check back to this site so no hike for us that day, but we'll try again another time.

Awesome hike. Steep at some points, but great view as a reward.

Great little hike. Thanks to Jeff, former forest kepper, in his honor suprises are left on trail. I got to enjoy little surprises on the way up and down the mountain too.

Great trail!

Your GPS will want you to cross a bridge to a gated yard, but keep going and look for address 806, which is a flower and packaging shop on the left about 5 minutes farther. You'll then follow signs for 809.

There is a portapotty at the parking lot.

The trail is great with a lot of side trails. I had a dog with me and she enjoyed climbing up and down the hills. I recommend checking out the vistas and White Redwood Trail while on this loop.

There are some very steep trails here!!

I followed the trail as it's presented on this site. A great view of Monterey Bay from the top but be advised that parts of the Byrne and ridge top trails are pretty steep. About 830' total elevation gain but it comes in short stretches. Most of the trails are fireroad wide. A few nice surprises along the way. Lots of doggies; people are encouraged to bring them to this park. The 1 mile road coming in is indeed a one laner but you are unlikely to have a problem. There are a few bumps and heaves but my Civic had no problem. Also, watch for ticks; the Byrne trail near the Milliron trail has a lot of overgrown grasses and I met a hiker who picked up a tick.
