This trail opens at 8am... those of you who are early risers will be met with locked gates. I will re-review when I get a chance to hike this.

There was no parking for this trailhead. I parked at Sage Drive and walk to the trailhead which next to the Briones Horse Center. Another alternative is to park at the Alhambra Creek Staging Area and pick up the trail there. One of the gate on the Tacan Trail was nailed shut so I had to hop the gate. Other than these two, it was a wonderful scenic hike. I recorded 8.36 miles for the total distance and completed in 2 hours and 45 minutes.

This hike has lots of steep terrain and great views. I added an extra loop by going into Briones for a total distance of 14.25 miles with 3,012 ft elevation gain. This was a fun hike but a tough one, especially on a 100-degree day. Remember to bring plenty of water, I had a full 3-liter bladder of water and just barely made it through.

Sick found the trail I was looking for!

great views of mount diablo;!

There are many steep parts. Hiking poles recommended. Pack sufficient water, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses. The trails are very exposed. This is more of challenge and difficult hike than a nature appreciation hike. There are some bikers and cows on the trail.

Beautiful views, very little shade. Pay close attention to the trail, very easy to end up on a connecting trail.

Awesome views! Trail was well marked and there were few people for a good part of the hike. 90% of the trail is in the sun, so bring LOTS of water. On an 80 degree day, I downed 3 liters with a solid mile left. Took us 3:20 with a nice lunch and snack break. Trail is more like 7 miles.

Loved this hike, though it turned out to be 7.25 miles. We went counterclockwise, and we had some steep climbs and ended up in the area with little cover. Would recommend an early start and counter clockwise direction with lots of water heading into summer.

Just to correct the review below, if you take this loop clockwise (fork left) from Reliez Valley to the "Blue Oak Shortcut" you'll ascend in shade. Counterclockwise (fork right) is all exposed, but a more gradual ascent.

easy and quick walk.

Wonderful hike. Plenty uphill, but great views. So fun to be on ridge line.

I started out from the Orchard Trail because the Pine Tree Trail was still washed out. Other than that the trails were good. Not too crowded and I had a good hike.

Beautiful hike. With a gradual incline, it never gets too intense. Lots of ridges to walk along and see valleys and rolling hills with ponds and lonely trees scattered through. You get to see some cows, as well as lots of types of birds. Gradual decline as well. Making it an easy finish.

Nice

Did this in a midweek afternoon, parking was good, light traffic on the trail. It feels like a hot summer day when there is no shape. Recorded 7.1 miles in 2 and a half hours. Overall it was a pleasant hike.

I’ve modified this loop a couple ways, but have loved walking up to the peak via briones crest. Take a right downhill just below the peak. Turn right onto Seaborg, then back up briones crest to the parking lot. 8ish miles, varied scenery, great trails.

After a day of rain, it was a little muddy on the bottom, but a nice wide trail. Great for kids who need to get out!

Great trail if you’re ready for a climb! Beautiful balance of trees and sun, nice climbs and drops, and beautiful views. Dog loved it. And we loved ending in the valley.

Mostly no trees, flat then switchbacks up and then the crest trail with beautiful views of the bay and then rolling back down.

Lots of pretty views and wildflowers this time of year, as well as birds. More people out than I would have expected on a weekday. The trail is nice and wide, at least

On the trail by 9am and headed in a counter clockwise direction. Since it was a Monday and Covid-19 day there weren’t many people out. Weather was cool and slightly overcast. Saw lots of butterflies and birds and a couple deer. The hills were turning brown as spring was giving way to summer. 5/11/20

The road there is very narrow. On the trail, it’s very wide and open. Starts shaded, then gets uncovered with really nice views. Enjoyed it!
