This loop was one of the best hikes I have done in a while. I followed the red trail marker and didn’t take any deviations. Didn’t see any cows or cow poop, horse poop was minimal, and even though it was Memorial weekend Saturday, the people were minimal after passing the cemetery. It offered a nice variety of scenery and landscapes, vast views, trail surfaces, history, and several different geological formations and soil types. Although just outside of Antioch, it seemed much more remote. I will do this one again.

Loved everything about it

I wanted to test out my new pack and poles. Nice day for a quick hike. I saw a young rattlesnake and a baby sunning themselves. A few raptors and a coyote in the distance. No cows, but plenty of evidence. Nice views, but think this trail would be prettier when everything is green.

Gorgeous scenery, varied foliage and flowers, and some beautiful rock paths. Great plant scents and grand vistas...even cows! An enjoyable spring hike.

As a fit hiker, I would not categorize this hike as easy. It starts with a gentle to medium climb on Stewartville trail with views of the rolling hills and without shade. Ridge trail gets a big steeper with amazing views of the valley and Suisun Bay. Chaparral Loop trail is about 50% in the shade and is on mostly rock slab which can be slick and tough to gain a foothold heading downhill in some places. The terrain and view on this trail is very different from the trail up. This is a good time of the year to enjoy the green rolling hills. Trails are well marked.

This was a nice hike and if I lived in the area I'd do it often, but it wasn't worth the 45-minute drive. There were tons of very cute cows blocking our trail and the recent rains combined with the cow hoofprints made it a muddy and uneven (but fun) experience. This is definitely a hike to do in winter and early spring as there is no shade and Antioch gets pretty hot in the summer/fall.

This trail is super fun! I brought my 4 year old niece w us and she did great! She did get tired towards the end and after she knocked out in the car lol... but, for people starting hiking, I would suggest it. I’m not in that great of shape and new to hiking and it’s a good starter trail.

The incline and rough terrain are a bit much to be considered easy. No strollers. Very petty hike and doable if you’re not avoiding inclines (my health app said we climbed 27 floors).

Great views!

Very scenic, you will not be disappointed! I love that I can bring my dog with me up there. I would bring a lunch and sit by the edge to enjoy the view for a few minutes before my trek back down. Bring good hiking shoes for grips....the path vary from smooth to rocky and uneven.

So beautiful!!!!!

This is one of my favorite trails in Black Diamond Mines. I like to hit it with my 2 year old son in a hiking carrier near the end of the day. I’m tall and there’s no brush for me to dodge!

The trail is what you make of it. If you take your time, it’s pretty easy after the first mile. I am always up against the park closing, especially in the winter, so I do this as fast as I can. It’s a great workout, if you keep the pace up.

Also the views from the top are amazing. In the early morning you can see the sun reflecting off the delta, in the evening you can see the sun setting with Mt Diablo in the background.

Great Hike. I did this loop Counter Clockwise. Pretty flat at the start after .7 miles at the switchback too river view trail it starts too climb. Not super steep. Lots of cows. End of the loop is really steep going down.

Some steep parts but nothing to bad. Good trail for the pups and the cemetery is neat!

Awesome for families and pets! Great view points and panoramic views. Highly suggest for all ages and fitness levels

Incredible views of east contra costa county. Lots of coyotes, cows, hawks and wild turkeys along the route. Will definitely be back to do this again.

AWESOME Hike, Intense Up Hill That Last A Good While . Took My Dog, He Loved It . Be Aware If Wild Life, No Problem With The Squirrels But We Did Encounter A Rattle Snake

Enjoyed this hike! Definitely has a few areas where you can go where it can be more challenging or easier depending on what you are looking for. Awesome place for pups! Only negatory would be the very few shade spots.

very good views on this trail and the rocky points are lovely....

Did see a coyote on this trail. Not as well marked as other trails, but still a nice hike!

overall good but long day if you bring the kiddos. our little one, 8yrs had a couple break downs due to the heat but we ended up back at the car finishing 6.75 miles. Got a tad lost in the beginning, the trail wasn't clearly marked at the start. Nice views, would do again.

this was an ok hike..no scenery until you get to the other side of the mountain. over all good.

Trail was in bad condition due to the past rain and the livestock stepping all over the place. Nice for wildflowers, but nothing spectacular.

Beautiful hike! Not terribly difficult but a nice loop with gorgeous views of the bay and surrounding hills. Very dog friendly however, keep an eye out for the cows. My lab, who is generally indifferent to livestock, had to run for his life from one particularly aggressive heifer on trail. Good (funny) story but a little scary at the time.
