Loved this hike. Easy trail along the river. Exactly 1.5 miles to the falls which right now is gushing with water! Fantastic falls for the Auburn area.
We found two TICKS. So be on the look out for those.
The drive to the trailhead is mostly off roading. Wouldn’t recommend bringing a small car. SUVs will have a bumpy ride. Preferable road to trucks and off roading vehicles. My 2005 Ford Escape made it!

Nice easy hike but very busy!

I would definitely recommend this for the avid hikers out there. When we went today, the majority of the trail path was easily recognizable. Toward the second half of the hike, where we were along water, it was VERY hard to find the path. I would definitely recommend downloading the AllTrails app prior to leaving because even though you may not have 4g, it will still tell you where you are and where the trail is. I believe the trail became difficult to find because the creek was running pretty quickly and also the water level was relatively high. There weren’t any clearly rocks or logs that we could use to walk on across the creek, hence we had to hike off trail in order to find an area we felt was safe to go across. That being said, it was very difficult to navigate around the creek since it created an impasse. Even when we managed to get across, we had to go up a sharp incline and navigate through thorn bushes and dead trees to get to the trail. This part of the trail was very difficult. Obviously if the trials path was clear and there was a way to cross the creek to the other side of where the path continued, this would not have been a problem at all. Overall, this hike was scenic, moderate-difficult and mostly SHADED. So super ideal for hotter weather. The hike gets rocky at times, but nothing that requires anything special like hiking boots or anything. Only thing that would make this hike better is if parks and rec actually maintained it. There were a lot of trees that had fallen and the trails are narrow at times. Additionally, there are multiple trails that connect to this one, so as mentioned prior BE SURE TO DOWNLOAD THE APP IF IT IS YOUR FIRST TIME.

A very nice hike. The recent rains have helped make the falls nice to enjoy. The trail can get a bit busy but the further you go the more secluded it gets. At the end of the trail, we headed up towards the road and then took a different steep trail back down to mix things up. Lots of shade if needed but not needed with the overcast skies.
Would definitely go again with it’s vicinity to Sac.

Quick, easy, flat hike. River was high, and the creek/waterfall was flowing high as well. Road going in is paved part of the way, and then very bad dirt road for about 2.5 miles past that. You don't NEED a truck to get to the trailhead, but that's the easiest way - we did it in a raised AWD station wagon, and that was fine.

Just went in February with my gf and doge. Lots of snow EVERYWHERE. Tons of people still out trail running though. There are a lot of split offs on this trail so we ended up doing different parts of a few separate trails and then just heading back because of rain. Still very nice though we will be heading back soon.

This trail was beautiful! Everything I could ask for! After all the rain and snow we’ve been getting, it made for perfect conditions. The beautiful green river was roaring by, and there were several mini waterfalls along the way to enjoy. It was quiet and calm and just what me and the dogs needed!

Really great trail with a lot of variation. Beautiful water views, water falls, and some cool old structures from the former railroad. Many people running this trail. Get there early for parking!

Great trail, especially the beginning part! Lost the trail at one point and went a slightly different way, but still good.

An easy local hike for beginners to get back into shape! Also nice that there's a "destination" you can enjoy. The falls were more than I was expecting for something so close and easy to access.

Beautiful walk. I wish people would pick up there dogs feces specially when it is in the middle of the road.

Lovely walk in the woods. Best in the morning when there's still a bit of mist about and it is still nice and cool.

Really great trail. Just enough challenge. Water level very nice right now. Highly recommended!

Did this trail yesterday, don’t know what I did that it did not record. But I would come back and do it again. It was muddy only because it had just rained a day before. Creeks over flowing, did cross and all but the last one as it was higher.

Very good trail. Went on a Saturday so was pretty busy but pretty wide paths most the way so was nice. Lots of dogs on the trail when we went. Pretty good sized uphill climb. I wouldn’t say the trail was very hard overall. It is also very shaded.

Lots of ticks.

Off Highway 49, leads to several trails. We ended up taking the one down to the river/railroad tracks. Good mix of incline/decline.

This trail is very basic for anyone in the Sacramento area. The dam is very pretty and one can get some good pictures there. Very popular trail. Half in shade half in sun.
