Beautiful but it is difficult and a good workout for sure. The view at the bottom is great.

The rains have passed and the trails aren’t unavoidably muddy. If you get up and out before 8am even on weekends you should find parking next to indicated trailhead. More close to 5 miles, crosshatching on the trail loop back

Make sure you wear hiking boots. Other hikers mentioned the first bit being steep. Seriously it's STEEP. It's a lot of fun. My pup and I kicked its butt. Even for an extremely busy Saturday afternoon, I only saw a handful of other hikers on this trail. Very peaceful!

Perfect day for a hike. Our goal was to get to the quarry but we passed it. So if that’s where you’re going, look for the sign that says “climbing trail”.

Really crowded and tough to find parking but the trail was surprisingly open for the amount of people out.

Pleasant hike, although mostly on a gravel road. Not topographicly challenging. Recommend fall through spring.

An absolute gem of a trail in the auburn foothill area. I’ve done many hikes along the coast, in the foothills and in the high Sierra and this one, after doing it once, has made my top 5. Bring a map because you can easily get lost on this one. The trail takes you through glimmering forest, and midway has a cute park bench rested in the middle of a steaming meadow. Look closely, as there are hidden grottos with emerald pools and waterfalls where fairies reside. Just enough incline had my inner Olympian beaming, and we were also met with sweeping vistas of the American River. This trail has it all! We also saw bear scat, and were met head on by a young buck who tried to claim the trail for himself. Also, thrice we encountered the extremely poisonous but beautiful Sierra Newt. Please enjoy these creatures from afar. A magical adventure through the foothills, this trail will give you. 5/5 and will I continue to enjoy this trail!

Good trail, easy parking ($10 or poppy pass), lots of restrooms. We didn’t see any animals but lots of signs about them. Really enjoyed seeing the history of the quarry along the trail. I took a few first-timers on this hike and they loved it!

This is a beautiful trail. I did it counter-clockwise. It took a moment to find the trailhead — it’s right off the road, not down under the bridge. The first section had a lot of mountain bikers, but folks were generally good and I just stepped off the trail. There’s a short, wider section in the middle where ATVs and road bikes can go, but you certainly hear them coming! The views of the river are beautiful and the trees are gorgeous right now in the fall. The section actually walking on the road is even pretty. I recommend walking on the outside by the cliff because cars can’t always see you coming around curves if you walk on the inside. The last section walking under the bridge is the most busy — understandably because it’s beautiful and near parking. Overall I would recommend this hike, but probably go on a weekday next time to avoid the crowds.

This is such a beautiful area that we had to come back for a second week, but we chose a different trail than last week. I enjoyed this hike because it is such a gorgeous environment and you get a great workout with the terrain! I highly recommend this hike and this area! Now we are going to find a trail that allows us to make it to the river!
