Beautiful but it is difficult and a good workout for sure. The view at the bottom is great.

The rains have passed and the trails aren’t unavoidably muddy. If you get up and out before 8am even on weekends you should find parking next to indicated trailhead. More close to 5 miles, crosshatching on the trail loop back

Make sure you wear hiking boots. Other hikers mentioned the first bit being steep. Seriously it's STEEP. It's a lot of fun. My pup and I kicked its butt. Even for an extremely busy Saturday afternoon, I only saw a handful of other hikers on this trail. Very peaceful!

Perfect day for a hike. Our goal was to get to the quarry but we passed it. So if that’s where you’re going, look for the sign that says “climbing trail”.

Pleasant hike, although mostly on a gravel road. Not topographicly challenging. Recommend fall through spring.

An absolute gem of a trail in the auburn foothill area. I’ve done many hikes along the coast, in the foothills and in the high Sierra and this one, after doing it once, has made my top 5. Bring a map because you can easily get lost on this one. The trail takes you through glimmering forest, and midway has a cute park bench rested in the middle of a steaming meadow. Look closely, as there are hidden grottos with emerald pools and waterfalls where fairies reside. Just enough incline had my inner Olympian beaming, and we were also met with sweeping vistas of the American River. This trail has it all! We also saw bear scat, and were met head on by a young buck who tried to claim the trail for himself. Also, thrice we encountered the extremely poisonous but beautiful Sierra Newt. Please enjoy these creatures from afar. A magical adventure through the foothills, this trail will give you. 5/5 and will I continue to enjoy this trail!

Good trail, easy parking ($10 or poppy pass), lots of restrooms. We didn’t see any animals but lots of signs about them. Really enjoyed seeing the history of the quarry along the trail. I took a few first-timers on this hike and they loved it!

This trail loop is beautiful. Lots of trees and moss, but I imagine it’s more dry and less green in summer. There’s lots of different terrain and multiple creek crossings where we saw some salamanders. There are a few places where the trail splits with no clear trail markers and there’s no phone service so make sure you have the map saved. There’s extremely limited parking but it wasn’t very busy today (a Monday morning). Also, TONS OF TICKS. My brother and I pulled at least 12 ticks of of each of our dogs and a few off our own legs. Wear pants and if you bring your dog make sure they’re on prescription tick prevention and check them well afterwards.

Very beautiful views of the river/quarry. Trail well marked and smooth. Not very difficult, some uphills/downhills.

If I had a dollar for every pile of horse poop after that hike I think I would have $50 if not more. If you take the loop to the right it’s a gradual decline and pretty steep uphill. Beautiful oak grove and views from the top of the trail.

There was a sign posted about a 1/2 mile from the end of the trail that warned of an agressive animal in the area.
