The trail head head starts on Web Canyon Dr in Almaden. There is no dedicated parking, but there are plenty of spaces available along the sidewalks of the neighboring streets. The short, lightly trafficked Webb Canyon Trail at the bottom starts with a paved access road (closed to cars) then branches into the woods as a narrow trail along a beautiful hillside, especially in the fall with a blanket of new grass. The trail then continues (on both side) along a portion of New Almaden Trail, which is a narrow, shaded, canyon carving trail that zigzags in and out of the canyons at the feet of the Almaden hills with occasional short changes of elevation. The top of the trail is a section of Randol and Mine Hill Trails, which are much wider and more trafficked (including by bikes) and with generally less shade. The trail can easily be extended by taking a longer section of New Almaden Trail at the bottom or by exploring the vast network of trails around the old mine at the eastern end of the Randol and Mine Hill Trails.Show more

This hike from Almaden Quicksilver County Park in southern San Jose tours the rusting remains of what once was one of the largest mercury-mining operations in the world. The Mine Hill region of the park includes English Camp, San Cristobal mine, a short section of mineshaft and the hulk of a large processing plant. At over 8 miles with substantial elevation gain, this is a rugged but satisfying hike into the history of the South Bay before it became famous as Silicon Valley. The park includes over 37 miles of hiking trails, including 30 miles of equestrian trails and 16.6 miles of bike trails. All trails in the park are also open to pet owners to walk their dogs on leash. For more information visit: https://www.sccgov.org/sites/parks/parkfinder/pages/almadenpark.aspxShow more
