Great trail for my man and small pup. Lots of beautiful sights and varying terrain.

This was a lot more incline then we expected. There's over 600 ft of elevation. We took the English Camp to Deep Gulch route. Deep Gultch is very shaded while the English Camp portion is mostly sunny. English Camp was winding and slower elevation where Deep Gultch was a very steep incline/decline.

Fun little loop to run

Need better trail markings. I bathrooms, but porta potties.

Nice shaded trail on a hot day. We had fun exploring the historic sites along the trail and we even saw a few deer at the end!

There are mountain lions here! We were able to take our dog on a leash and did about 4 hours of hiking into different tails. We did notice however that there weren’t many people on the trails which is how we saw the mountain lion taking a nap on the trail. When there’s less foot traffic it can be dangerous. Overall it’s decently covered with trees and the weather can be warm.

Easy hike, rolling hills, but nothing hard. Dog allowed on a leash.

Absolutely stunning views! Some of the trail is shaded but some isnt so dont forget sunscreen!

Great hike or a train for running. Bring more water than you think is necessary as it’s 75% open, especially if you’re doing it on the hot day like we did. Otherwise great views and really good wide path most of the way. Great for kids too and there are benches to rest at peaks.

Hiked, walked and jogged these trails dozens of times. Lots of wild life to be seen!

take the southern Loop first thing in the morning when you set out, and your return trip will be on the north side of the Hill and in the shade.

Really rocky and bushes are really long and wild. True nature if you are looking for that. No views.

good hiking trail for the beginners.

Nice walk. Didn’t see a lot of wildlife but some great views over the valley.

I second that the trail is mostly in the shade and I like that. It also has a lot of smaller trail options. It also has high elevation (sometimes steep climbs), which is also what I was looking for. The trail is pretty much gravel-ish. Will definitely come back for more.

Love the Prospect part of the hike.

Some of these reviews cannot be referring to this particular loop. I have hiked and run on these trails for more than 20 years and know them well.
It's not long and flat: The first uphill and the one just before the reservoir are moderately challenging climbs.
There is not a lot of shade. A lot of this trail is exposed and can be dry and hot in the summer. It's prettiest in the spring when everything is green and there are wildflowers. And if you go early in the morning or around dusk, you're likely to see some kind of wildlife.

Good workout! Strenuous at places and steep at the end. The abandoned structures are fun to see. Look for antique cars that have fallen off the side of the road.

Great hike, lots of dogs, enough hills to get a decent workout. Surprising with so many dogs on the trail that there is only one trash can at the very beginning of trail.

Very interesting mining site.

Favorite go-to hike. Gets hot in the summer months but there is quite a bit of shade along the way with some nice breezes. Beautiful scenery and lots of wildlife can be seen on this trail too. The first hill is a killer, then easy to moderate thereafter.

Incline is a challenge, but a fun one.

Love this trail. Views of Almaden Valley are breathtaking. Is challenging without being overwhelming.

Good loop trail for those seeking a bit of exercise or for hikers looking to get tuned up after winter. Outside of the first mile it's an easy stroll although in the middle of summer you probably want to start early as it get's unbearably hot mid-day.

Just did this trail for the first time, I really enjoyed it. Very moderate in intensity leaning on the easy side. Beautiful views of The Valley, very few people on the trail and very easy to get lost. There are many path options. I used the alltrails map with subscription and still made a couple of wrong turns and had to backtrack.

My favorite trail, been doing this trail 2x a week for over a year and periodically for over 10 years. It’s moderately challenging, has a very steep hill at the beginning, it’s a killer for first timers. This is the hardest part of the hike. It takes about 1 1/2 hours at a moderate pace. We usually do this loop between an hour and hour and 1/2 depending if we feel like running.

It’s is also very sunny and hot on this hill in the summer. The trail is mostly sunny with a few tree canopies that provide much needed shade. There are a few path variations on the trail to make the hike shorter or longer.

Beautiful flowers in the spring. A lot of wildlife in the evenings near dusk. I have seen a bobcat 2x, mountain lion, a boar, scorpion, many, many deer and wild turkeys. During the day, few wildlife sightings.

Beatiful

I was a little underwhelmed by this trail. It’s really long and flat. The scenery is fairly consistent. I dunno, just felt a bit boring.

HACIENDA TRAIL is great- Just difficult enough but mainly a good hike! Combination of sunny and shade! Did get warned about a rattle snake sighting but just keep eyes and ears open.

Lots of pretty wild flowers right now. Hiking is along a dirt road. Lots of branching paths make choosing different lengths easy.
