Explore the most popular Bird Watching trails in Aliso and Wood Canyons Regional Park with hand-curated trail maps and driving directions as well as detailed reviews and photos from hikers, campers and nature lovers like you.

This trail is just a fire road that goes from the view point at top of the world park down to Canyon Acres Drive. It is super steep and a good quick workout. There are some good views towards the canyon (Irvine & the 73 Toll Road ) and of the center of Laguna Beach and the ocean. This seem more of a training hill rather than a hike.

Good for groups , wide paved road. Brought our dog and saw other pups out and about as well. Very dog friendly but no shade.

Skinny snake at TOW

Great view but not really a trail. Its part dirt, part access-type road. You can walk about 50 yards and see the view in all directions.

Can be hot and dusty if No cloud cover. Go early. Careful with bikes. Great views.

Nice wide fire road. Rolling hills. Out and back with ups and downs. There is water at the end. Lots of side trails that you can take to make it a longer run.

one of the more exerting trails at top of the world. rock-it loop starts off on the heavily trafficked west ridge trail for about a mile. once you get to rock-it trail that's where the real fun begins. the single track trail has rock gardens sprouting up all throughout the downhill run. once you make it down to coyote trail you get a more calming hike, some parts in the canopy and some right next to the creek but make no mistake the real work is right around the corner. upon meeting up with mathis trail you are about to enter the last but also the hardest part of the hike. mathis trail is a heart pumping, glute burning incline that seems to never end. make sure you look over to the left and see other hikers taking on car wreck, a shorter more vertically challenging trail that is a must for every top of the world hiker. once merging back on to west ridge trail be at peace, you have done the hard work. enjoy the walk back up to the parking lot stopping at least once to look across the 133 and see the crazies making the trek up big bend. big bend is no joke!

Short, pretty trail in laguna. The way out is all uphill but there are stairs and a well marked trail. Starts out literally in the middle of a neighborhood but then hikes away and feels more secluded as you go. Ran this one and it wasn’t too bad. Highly recommend doing this at sunset as the view of the ocean and canyon is amazing! This would be a nice hike to take a visitor on because it’s short enough and easy to get to.

Nice quick trail. Went for a morning hike. Lots of friendly bikers. They communicate with you to let you know if more while be speeding through. Make sure if you’re hiking to look out for areas you can quickly move out of the way-so no one gets hurt.

Too bad the dogs of some people are not kept on a leash I got attacked and the person a woman did not despise his animal absolutely I was very very scared

This trail felt like it took forever. I really dislike being on the asphalt for the first couple miles in and therefore back out. Not much scenery so it just felt like a chore to get out of the way. I turned left at the fork and took the “harder” way up. You see the car within a mile from there while you are constantly climbing what feels like stairs. I had to stop a few times to catch my breath and once you get to the top you can see Top of the World not too far away. Then you just take the ridge line down and back out.

This is our second time on this trail, we took the Toovet side this time. I needed poles but others more in shape did fine.

A varied route, begins with a fairly heavily traveled West Ridge Trail, a park road but then moves on to an interesting single track trail (Rock-it Trail) providing great views and a challenging run. Rocky and steep downhill leads into Coyote Run Trail. a very shady segment creekside, a nice change from the earlier open trail. A short pice of Mathis Canyon Trail leads to Oak Grove, a mildly challenging uphill transitions to the long, steep, difficult uphill Car Wreck Trail ( how did that car get there anyway?) Following that tough effort, the West Ridge return to the Top of the World trailhead felt like a cool down run. All in all, an interesting and varied route.
