Description

Parkin Archeological State Park preserves a Mississippian Period American Indian village that is dated back to A.D. 1000 to 1550. Many scholars believe this site is where Hernando de Soto visited on his expedition in 1541, and wrote about in his chronicles. In addition to exhibits and a gift shop, there is a day-use area here, with a place to picnic and playground for kids. ________ HOURS: * Interpretive programs available year-round Visitor Center: Open all year Jan. - Dec. Sundays 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Tues. - Sat. 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Closed Mondays except Monday holidays Boat Ramp /Picnic Area / Playground / Restrooms: Open all year Jan. - Dec. Sun. - Sat. 8 a.m. until One hour after sunset Closed New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day & noon Christmas Eve through Christmas Day
