I did this trail back in June. It takes 5.5 hrs. to hike this trail. I advise parking near the visitor center downtown.

It was shaded and great! To start in town mid way, go past the pizza place on exchange st, up the driveway and behind the no parking sign.

Nice trail with some steep climbs and no view at the top of the mountain. Disappointing.

This is a really well kept trail! It has moderate climbs to the top, but the view is so worth it!

It’s a great introductory trail. There’s a pretty steep climb at the beginning, but it levels out and it’s mostly shaded.

We enjoyed this trail! There was a few times we got turned around but the view was worth it! It’s longer to go from the sunset trail but is a lot easier. We started from the campground and it was a steady incline all the way to the top.

great hike from the campgrounds. quite humid when we went. The trails are nicely maintained and a steady climb up, although not difficult. good family hike and great views at the end.

Good trail. Not busy. I recommend hiking it counter clockwise for an easier hike. We caught the trail from behind the pizza shop. Spray for ticks before hitting the trail.

Not difficult at all. Nice view at the end. Mostly shaded. Word to the wise though...don’t eat 6 pieces of fried catfish immediately before hiking though.

Previous logs show a water feature- that is not on this trail. I would classify the trail as a gravel driveway as far as views.

It was a fun trail to the tower. I took several other trails to get to the top and to make it a little more difficult. It was shaded. A fun walk for my kid. It was definitely easy.

Hike was pretty boring to a slightly above average view point. This park isn't known for hiking and now I know why...

Great trail to hit while you're in Hot Springs National Park. About a 2 mile loop with lots of shade and moderate elavation. You're probably going to run into some deer if the foot traffic is light. Enjoy it!

We hiked a portion of this trail and it was pretty good. Lots of trees so it was shady. The only thing I did not like was the section we hiked had quite a bit of road noise coming up from the town below. We probably hiked an hour out and back so only did a small section of the overall trail. We started from the overlook on West Mountain.

Off trail

My wife and I completed the 14 mile loop trail July 11. Sunset Trail is marked very well at the top of the Mountain West trailhead, but not so much on the southern part of the loop. We lost the trail multiple times as we dipped into the city and had to go off trail to relocate it. Overall, the hike was very wooded and there was very little traffic (other than the literal traffic downtown). The Old Bridge portion of the trail was a highlight.

We biked and it was very pretty! There was one spot I had to walk my bike because of the incline and rocks. Otherwise very quick and nice! Mostly shaded and beautiful views!

We ended up going off the trail and hiking the way down to bathhouse row. You can’t get lost just keep going and you’ll hit another trail. Great views and elevation

I agree the view isn’t necessarily worth it. I expected a bit more from a national park. It has two look outs. One at the top on rocks and the other you so close to the top with the stairs. I would have probably chosen a different trail to do here had this one not had such good reviews.

Tough incline pretty much all the way up. I struggle more with descending so that was the tougher part. Saw a tortoise and a lizard as well as a nice lookout on part of the goat rock trail. Park at the campground.
