Was such a great hike!! We got hiking a bit late (close to 9am) so it got pretty hot, but was a very enjoyable hike. There was even a rattlesnake up at the top and we got to witness a squirrel-rattlesnake stand-off.. pretty cool! the squirrel won XD All around a really great hike!

Great trail for running!

I didn’t realize most of this hike/trail was a wash but it’s a good little hike for little dogs. Lots of mountain bikers and tons of Cholla to watch for!

Nice trail but a bit too flat and generic to get 4 stars from me.

Started late today around 10am with temperatures in the 90ies. Went past the Wind Cave and up to the South Peak.
Used a liter of water and ran out on the way down. Took me 1.5 hours for the round trip with only a short break at the top. I'd recommend going earlier or when it's cooler, but still a nice hike!

This trail takes you right through the Merkle Memorial Trail. (The Merkle Trail is a loop, and this one bisects it ). A nice climb with lots of beautiful views of the surrounding area. There are parts that are a little challenging. If you have never hiked a moderate level trail before, this would be an excellent one to go on. Obviously, take water even though it is short. You will want to stop and take breaks to see the numerous vistas. At the end of the trail, you will have to turn right or left to finish your hike back to your vehicle via the Merkle Trail.

Really challenging trail. Start early in the morning. I am 69 years old with pacemaker. Took me 1 1/2 hours up. As I got higher up, I noticed, in quite a number of spots, that the trail is not marked and there are little feeders. So, I had to guess which ones were the trail. The scenery of the valley is incredible! Going down was much easier because I could see the trail beneath me. Several areas there are rocks to climb over. Take plenty of water and a fruit or snack. I loved it and plan to go again.

My personal favorite hiking trail. Not tough, but long enough to get a good hike in.

Good trail, not too long. So many cactuses, I haven’t made it through without the pups getting one stuck in their paw, but otherwise good. Also the price went up to $7 to enter the park.

Decent trail, just stay away from the Signal Wash which runs parallel with the Spillway Trail and is much too sandy.

First time in Tonto National, pleasantly surprised at the beauty. Saguaros were starting to bloom.
The views of the east and west canyon walls were spectacular. Looking forward to taking the run coming from the southend for a different perspective. Some area will need 4W with full size Jeep. Nice half day run.

One of the better “city hikes” - not too many people there on a weekend - some fairly steep inclines. Would do it again

Great trail. Last two thirds up required me to pay attention. Was in the 80’s around 8:00 in the morning and hiking wad comfortable, later in the day would have been more than a challenge.

Trail gets pretty crowded on cool weekends. But it is a beautiful easy/moderate hike with a great view at the top. If you time it correctly (top of the hour from 9am to 9pm) you can see the fountain from Fountain Hills when you look north from the cave. Next to no shade on the trail during the day but nice and cool at the top.

this is easy and takes about 3 hours tops. Good for kids and pets. Pretty busy and cost is now 9 bucks

Saw my first Saguaro blossoms on this beautiful trail today! The desert was once again gorgeous on this hike. Seemed like everything was purposely planted or placed in its spot. Great views of Superstition Mtns. Can’t wait to have hubby ride his bike thru here this weekend while I walk the dog!

This is a great short hike. The rocky path keeps you on your toes with foot placement but never are you just climbing on just rocks.yhe view at the end is wonderful. I recommend starting by at least 8am for best conditions.

Great trail and amazing views

Far away from me, but great hike. Up to you how difficult you wanna make it. Wanna go fast?? Pretty easy first half way up, then you start noticing how difficult the elevation makes it. Take your time the first time up to get an idea how goes.

very nice hike. Very crowded, and some loose footing. also lots of bees at the cave. if you're allergic bring your meds. absolutely amazing views

Had a lot of fun. A few tough parts but nothing beyond 4 High in my TJ on 33's. A few blind spots where you need to be wary of oncoming traffic. There were a couple of spots where the trail was a little confusing but overall it was easy to navigate.

Stunning short walk to see the sun set. Steep at times. Moderate is the right rating.

Great early morning hike. For someone who is used to the Appalachian Mtns I was not quite sure what to expect. I hit the trail just before first light around 5:45am and I was off by 7am. Really glad to have experienced some AZ hiking.

Nice, easy trail.

So we actually went about a mile and a half further than we thought we are going to. But it was beautiful today, and the scenery was stunning. I do suggest going early in the morning as I could see it gets hot- there is definitely no shade but plenty of photo opportunities. People to bring their dogs but I do worry dogs will get overwhelmed... I would definitely do it again but make sure to bring water and be prepared to walk at least 10 miles if you need. That means wear good socks and bring sunglasses
