Beautiful trail! We moved at a decent pace and it took about 2 hours (in and out).

moderate for sure.

Beautiful lake views with moderate elevation gain. Can’t wait to try this one in the spring when the flowers bloom.

Beautiful, easy trail. Elevation may bother you if you are from the Valley.

Rather repetitive, beautiful scenery though! Water levels are quite low.

Butcher Jones trail hugs the perimeter of lovely Saguaro Lake. Steep, rugged slopes and colorful peaks are a gorgeous backdrop to the glistening water. Along with fabulous views we saw a variety of water fowl - loons, buffleheads, ring necks, ruddy ducks, and of course, ridiculous coots. The last mile—a cut across between two arms of the river-lake —we happened on an opening with many active gnatcatchers, bushtit, cactus wrens and black phoebes.

Real nice hike with super views. Bring your camera! Definitely moderate as the trail is narrow with rocks and lots of ups and downs. Recommend walking sticks. Be sure to arrive at trail with the Tonto Pass. Restrooms available in parking lot.

Absolutely gorgeous hike! Highly recommended. Make sure to check out Burro Cove at the end of the Trail for some beautiful views of the Salt River!

I hike this regularly. Beautiful hike, dogs love the water. Any level of hiker can hike this. In and out as far as you wish. Parking can be an issue on weekends so come early.

Did this with my kids was fun! Great views!

Very beautiful hike, amazing views! The trail is very easy, hardly moderate. I packed a lunch and enjoyed it on the water’s edge. I saw wild horses just before entering the parking area, too. Bring plenty of water and wear pants. You’ll need a daily Tonto Park pass from the gas station off of 87, as well. A very active lake, which was fun to be around. I would definitely hike this trail again!

very nice vistas.
beautiful lake.

This trail will kick your butt with the incline lol.

This was a very beautiful hike. Well worth the effort. Not a hard hike by any means. Beautiful views of the lake. I would recommend going early to try to catch the sunrise.

Lame! Litter and cow dung and graffiti and no real trail. It was actually kind of gross. This was a serious disappointment.

Great Hike with GTAH, AZ! Easy/Moderate with spectacular views! Bathroom on site! Need to purchase pass at Gas Stations, $8.00

Wonderful hike up to three spring going through the forest following the Horton Creek with some mini waterfalls all along. Very beautiful scenery, very peaceful and relaxing. This hike is at a moderate level.

Great for dogs

This trail is my favorite hike yet. The pine trees and creek are breathtaking. I highly highly recommend you make it to the top - the views are so worth it! It was very windy and chilly at the top and the trail toward the top is not marked. Allow yourself 4-5 hours.

Perfect morning for magnificent views. Not a thing I can complain about on this hike. Trails are in good shape. There are a few rocky spots but nothing too bad. watch for a few spots where the desert has grown into to trail a bit and have a great time.

Great hike today! Relatively easy hike.

One of the best!

Pretty easy hike. Other reviewers are right, lots of cacti over the trail, especially at the end. It’s not that hard to navigate safely through it though. Got a lot busier toward 9-10am as we were exiting. Pretty views of the lake and a few tree overhangs but not much other than that.

Went hiking with wife, kids, and cousin on our first long distance hike of the season to practice building up distance endurance. Only thing that was really disappointing with this trail is how the desert plants are not kept trimmed back from the trail and it can be tricky (and painful) to maneuver through some areas of the trail. Lots of great wildlife to be found along the way and the view of the lake is worth the trip out here. No horses or rattlesnakes today, but my daughter found a tarantula of decent size which was a pleasant surprise for us.

This hike is amazing up to the spring. Past that the trail is extremely hard to follow and steep loose rocks threatened injuries. After about a half mile or so it is well marked with carins up to Rim Road. Even with this app and trail markers I lost the trail several times. Many great spots to camp by and below the spring.
