Wonderful easy trail. perfect for kids or anyone just starting out with the outdoor adventures. $7 fee for parking per vehicle.

Nice hike! The last little bit up to the top from the first view isn’t that difficult. We got there about 7:30 am and had to wait about 10 minutes to get into the parking lot because a ranger was admitting only so many cars at time and we had to wait for people to leave. It was a short wait. Worth the $7 per car.

Fun trail. Beautiful scenery. Pretty challenging for beginners but not too technical. Some hairpin turns are a bit sandy and can lead to some slipping. Overall, a fun trail to ride.

Nice short hike. First half was relatively easily. Second half was all hills until you get to the top. Great view. Limited space on top so be careful.

This was a great hike. It is a fairly wide path, so 3 can walk side by side. I, too question the moderate label as it is a pretty easy hike. I saw lizards, rabbits and chipmunks(?) and I had headphones on, so probably would've been more aware without the headphones. It was also not an overly crowded hike, at least not on the Wed. morning when I went. parking is $7 per car, which seems a little high for an hour hike, but I will just invite others next time I go.

We went on a Tuesday at 7am. Wide, well-marked trail with quite a few bikers, only a few people on foot, and one person on horse. The name of this trail on the app is a little deceiving because you don’t actually see a trail marked “Malpais”. If you go clockwise you start at San tan and go to stargazer, to moonlight, to goldmine. But if you follow the map on this app it’s easy. Easy parking.

We tried this trail out with our two kids and our family dog. We arrived at 7:30 and came back to the parking lot at 9:30. One of our biggest problems was the bugs. There were gnats and flies all over; getting everywhere from clothing to skin. The climb up was steep and rocky, and it got hotter and hotter. The gnats disappeared when the heat started getting to its peak, but it left us tired. Would be a nice hike in the fall or spring, but I guess the Arizona summer heat just got the best of us. Our dog and kids were able to complete the trail (though they were left very tired). Wouldn’t exactly recommend for beginners.

Great Trail. Amazing views! Easy to moderate. If you are a mountain biker be ready to walk for about 2.5 miles on Malpais Trail. Big part of the trail is on a wash with soft sand. Worth doing it. In my opinion this is the most beautiful trail at the San Tan mountains.

Washes are sandy. Great for a calf workout. Beat the wait to get in the main entrance and shade was nice. 6:30-9am May 2nd.

A good tour of the San Tan Mountains without any significant elevation change or climbing.

Very little shade and lots of small insects but an enjoyable scenic hike.

Have done several walks-hikes in the park. All are pretty casual. Since more casual you can definitely enjoy the amazing scenery more. And there is a lot to see. Great casual walk-hikes !!!

Great trail, but starting at 2pm is was a mistake! It got hot when we got to the steep part. Since I had my dog, I skipped the very last decent before the midpoint and went up to a lookout point instead. I also took the Littleleaf trail on the way back. Would be a perfect trail for an earlier start!!
