Gateway to the front range and Pusch Ridge Wilderness. I'll never tire of it.

Aptly named. Pick a cool day, or what passes for cool in Tucson.

This a favorite. In March or April, you might find snow in places. Please do not attempt this in the heat of summer. On the way out, you'll lose a lot of elevation quickly and still have miles to go at low (hot!) elevation. I've assisted several people in the early stages of heatstroke here. Be smart.

I loved it! I like challenging hiking trails, and this one was. I only made it half way up. Was interesting to find all the power lines cut down, yet not removed. Will go again for sure. Views were breathtaking.

Finally hiked Ventana canyon trail to the window. I've always wanted to get to the window and I finally did it! Perfect day for it. 4 hours up, 3:35 down.

Very rocky, wear your hiking shoes if you have them. Definitely steady incline on the way in. Very pretty hike!

A bucket list trail! Hiked with my scouts a month ago- only made it half way. Was determined to go solo to the top. Hiked 3.5 hours up and 3 down - not bad for 63 years young. Photographed a small herd of Bighorn Sheep (9) at about 4,300 feet elevation - made the trip really worth it. 360 views from the top were awesome - signed the book - took over 400 photos on this hike. A challenge - but I love challenges!

This was a tough, steep hike but well worth the view from the top. Saw some big horn sheep on the way up. Only lower portion is good for horses. After a certain point it gets too steep and rocky.

Stayed in a Condo sitauted right at trailhead. We used the trail a couple times for morning exercise before it got too hot! So only went halfway up. To that point about 2.5mi and 1000' elevation gain. Nice easy to moderate trek with some good views of the canyon.

This is one of the most beautiful trails in Tucson. It goes on and on and on and unveils more and more of the beautiful Sonoran desert.. it really should be done before 1 April. Really really gorgeous enjoyable hike steady uphill not overly challenging.

Nice hike, seemed to be steepest during the initial assent. Fun connector to Sycamore Reservoir and further trails. Great views throughout!

great hike! but if you bring your dog, boots are highly highly recommend. the terrain is very rough and will quickly cause pad damage. also, if you hike during summer, be prepared for your self and dog. Not too many sppts for shaded breaks, heat can really take a toll on your dog if you are not careful.

Fairly easy hike, I enjoy the views every time I go!

Nice trail well indicated

We found the water tank and continued on the west side of the fence to a new house site; but never saw petroglyphs. Without GPS what should we look for?

First time on this trail. Very nice, good hike. Kids were on the trail and had no trouble climbing the "rock" stairs. (what we call them). We were fortunate to see Big Horn Sheep. Beautiful site

Great workout, pictures don't do there justice it's beautiful up there! Took us about four hours we left at seven and finished 11ish. Saw some bighorn sheep coming down! Bring lots of water.

Nice easy trail. I lay on the stone beside the river for a while. Watching the blue sky, listening to the music, I spent a satisfied morning.

When you get to the top of the saddle go easy to Window Rock. Another mile or so. Best hike in the Tucson area I think.

This was an enjoyable 2 hour hike with my tween daughter. This canyon has a tram traveling a ways up on a paved road. There are 2-3 places within the first half of the hike within view of this road/trolley. We enjoyed 2 crossings on rocks over a low stream. The second half is less busy, and most of the time we felt like the only ones in the canyon, with no sight of the city on the other side of the ridge. Beautiful views. A sign warning of recent mountain lion sighting. The only wildlife sled saw were the small lizards though, which was fine by me!

Great hike/run! Spectacular views leaving desert floor and Saguaros behind to high desert. Amazing options to connect up to AZ trail as well. Make sure you have good shoes.

Very difficult, long pants, gloves helped. the 1st .8 mile is almost flat, then at the sign that says 'not a real trail' it gets hard hard hard. The views at the top were amazing. Last year saw a Bighorn Sheep.
Not a beginner trail, bring food & food. Took us 2 hours up and we hike 3 times a week!

Very challenging hike, especially the last 0.2 mile. After the end of the FS maintained Trail (less than 1 mike in), it’s very low traffic and can be super steep in some areas. You’ll be scrambling up some short rock faces and sliding around a bit. Don’t do it if you’re afraid of heights (or do it??). Plan to be on all fours through parts of it and bring lots of water and a camera for the top. You won’t need boots, Trail shoes will work fine. Views are amazing, hike will kick your a**!

Maiden Pools is one of several destinations on the Ventana Canyon Trail. See instructions and reviews for that trail. Not sure why this section is rated moderate and the longer trail hard. I’d say the lower canyon is easy (first mile or so) but as the trail ascends it gets much steeper and more rocky - i.e. hard. The trailhead is within the Ventana Canyon Resort and the first section of the trail runs along an easement through private property. It is well travelled and the trail is obvious.

Great short hike!

The trail is rocky, to say the least, and much of it is loose and slippery, so I highly recommend the use of hiking poles, especially coming down. This trail is steep, but the view from the top is worth the effort.

Amazing hike! Didn’t make it to the peak only to the summit But being our first time hiking it was really a challenge! So worth it! Amazing views and definitely worth the hike l. I can’t wait already on my list to hike to the peak!.

Good to get a workout trail. Rocky but lots of ‘natural’ rock steps. I would recommend poles unless you are nimble. Great views; trails are easy to follow.
