NIce trail for practice runs... do it clockwise and you get a nice downhill run!!!

I would rate this as easy to moderate, but I love riding my mountain bike here.
Most any bike can use it thou.

Don’t know why this mileage is so far off.

Hard to find trailhead parking lot just outside the gated community of Eagles Nest. After a 1/2 mile walk through the gate to the trailhead, you begin the hike and still haven’t seen a sign that says Dixie Mine.

Trail is mostly dirt and easier than the jagged stone hikes on many of the Sonoran trails. While not a big total elevation change, the many up and down segments make it a more moderate hike. You eventually come to a sign that says Dixie Mine at the Sonoran Trail intersection.

After 2 miles on the scenic trail (2 1/2 in) you wonder, “Have I missed the mine?” You come to the remains of a dirt road and think the mine must be down this road.

After another 1/2 mile (now 3 miles from the parking area) we turned around thinking we’ve overshot the mine entrance based on the All Trails app mileage number and turned around.

Never saw the mine holes others talked about. Our hike totaled 6 miles. Enjoyed the scenery. Yup, there is no shade so bring plenty of water to last 2+ hours.

Great trail, mostly flat but you do hike up and over a small hill. Great views, lots of wildlife including a large Mohave rattlesnake. Lots of saguaros. Peaceful.

Easy, beautiful walk with lots of lizards and plant life.

Smooth and flowy desert ride. I did it counter clockwise and would probably do it clockwise the next time I go...

Great hike!! Cactuses and other plants just starting to bloom! Mostly easy with a few spots that would be considered moderate. Not very many people... beautiful views! Take lots of water as there is no shade.

I would really rate this as easy, but so enjoyable. The majority of this trail is flat. There’s typically a little breeze on the ridge of the hill. For relaxation, it’s one of my favorites.

Nice hike, good trail, not too rocky and pretty views.

Easy trail with lots of road noise. It would be good for bike or walking your dog as it isn’t heavily trafficked.

Where is the mine itself? Did not see any sign, however it is very nice trail with some real nice views.

Scenic is a perfect name for this trail. It is ver picturesque and an easy trail to hike. Looking forward to hiking this one again in the spring. Would be beautiful to see with flowers in bloom.

Enjoyable hike...

very beautiful scenery... with a bit of challenge

Good trail for mountain bikes but not so great for hiking. Always within earshot and eyesight of a busy road. I prefer peace and quiet

Great hike for people visiting Phoenix and want a scenic hike.

Beautiful, fairly easy hike with little elevation change. The views of the other mountains are worth it.

Not the best hike

Not that great

I hike this trail quite often seeing as I live in walking distance to the trailhead. Usually not crowded although sometimes on weekends there are hiking clubs that go. The mine is actually through the wash at the bottom. Great trail for everyone because you can either turn around at Dixie mine or keeping going to Thompson peak or prospector. Great hike for dogs too.

Great trail, gorgeous views each step of the way!

Gave it one star because we couldn’t hike on it. Arrived on News Years day and there was a security guard waiting and turning away all hikers. It was closed and he said it is. Closed 3 days a year and we happen to hit one of the days. I mean who pays a man to stand on New Year’s Day to turn hikers away. Will have to try again soon.

Fairly mellow hike and good for most ages. Can be beautiful during wildflower season but that can also bring a lot of bees. Usually not super crowded.

I like the inclined trails! Perfect for a family or for someone who wants a long walk, but for thrill seekers, it’s not a win...also, I didn’t find it “scenic” in comparison to other trails at McDowell Mountain. It worked for the people I was with though!

hiked over from the Scottsdale side via bell pass and prospector. Been wanting to check out the mine for a while. Hiked back to Dixie mine trailhead to complete the route. Enjoyed the route besides the mine great views of Four Peaks weavers needle Thompson peak and east end.

Closer to moderate than easy. Fairly scenic and not many people using it. I also missed the trail back to the mine but it was the best part of the hike for me, if you continue going up the trail past the mine to the top of the mountain you can see the fountain (during the first 15 minutes of every hour), a little bit of the Verde river and a lot better view of the mountains.

Nice Trail, we were lucky to see about 6 Mule Deer about 100 yards away from us:)
