This trail was a gem. shaded most of the way. I would rate this as hard if you stick to the Baldy trail but it is nice to have the option of the super trail going back down. as always start early. I took 3l and did fine.

No falls as of 5/19. It's a moderate hike but right now it's hot and the sun is relentless. Little to no shade on the trail. It's still gorgeous up there though. There is still some water in the reservoirs but I wouldn't get in it. There were at least 20 'young adults' that were up there swimming and being obnoxious. Don't expect calm and serene.
We walked from the visitors center but took the tram back....worth the $4
Also, it's more that the 7.9 miles the hike description says. According to my 'map my hike' it was 9.75 from the visitors center and back round trip. When we got to the 7 switchbacks it was still about a mile to the 'falls'. We thought we were almost there but not quite lol

The trail starts off with an incline, and after about a mile you head down. After another set of incline/decline (2 miles total) the trail gets relatively flat and stays that way. We only did a total of 10 miles (5 miles in + 5 miles out) and saw a couple of domesticated horses and a couple of deers as well. Overall a nice, long, moderate hike but should do it when the weather is not bad as there is barely any shade

Trail was beautiful, but close to the campgrounds and highway for the most parts.

Great hike. Not too difficult. Very rewarding 360 view at the end from the ridge. So beautiful at dusk. :-)

Fun trail, beginning has plenty of shade in the forest. Went off-trail and hiked a peak (dunno the name), was so windy my hat nearly flew off. Running down, almost stepped on a big snake, perpendicular across the trail and perfectly camouflaged. I be rating 1/1 for snakesssss

perfect workout. I've done 3 times in a 24 hr.period. It never gets any easier

Tough hike. Don’t let the short distance fool you-this joke gets up in a hurry. Beautiful views-especially on the way up. You’ll be surprised how quickly you gain elevation.

This is a good hike for newcomers acclimating or visitors not content to stay on the tram, with nice views of lower Sabino Canyon.

From the campground the trail switchbacks and is in decent shape however the trail quickly deteriorates as you approach the burned zone. I was turned around from both directions due to downed logs and uneven trail starting both top and bottom. Needs some chainsaw work and could make for an excellend MTB shuttle.

I could not locate the start of the trail as the area was devastated by wildfire last year and the trail has not been re-cut. You can reach the upper section of the trail by taking the dirt road just east by the yellow winter gate. This road is not open to traffic and is great alternative for biking and hiking. After a couple turns (apprx 1.5mi) you will see a cairn on the left where the original trail came up the hill.

Trail down from the fire watch tower is non-existent. Totally burned out and needs re-cut. Take the dirt road up instead.

This trail is just relentless and awesome! There's no boulder climbing--just a challenging hike. As soon as you get a little break, the trail just keeps going up. I'm not a huge fan of heights, but I had no issues at all. Only stupid thing I did was start the hike at 2p on the hottest day of the year so far. It was brutal for the first half, but you noticed a significant cooling half way up. That got me through!
I'm in good shape, but it still took me 3 hours to top with frequent water breaks due to the heat. Took me a little over 2 hours to get down.

Easy hike
Wonderful views

This hike was actually really difficult for us. Coming back is easier because it's mostly downhill. The falls are just a trickle and all the creek beds were dry. We actually got lost on the way down for about 20 min and it was terrifying in the heat. I think it's only worth it if the falls are flowing. Check with the visitors center before going.

Very tired but worth it. The sight on the top is excellent!

Awesome trail - well maintained and easy to follow. I started late around 9:40am on a cool May day with 68F at the trailhead when I parked. Took the Super trail up and made the summit in 3h17m, then went back down Old Baldy trail. 12.1 miles according to my GPS and definitely more than the trail description says.

I give it four stars not five because of the crowds. It’s a very popular and relatively easy hike to a lovely spot. Worth the hike but don’t expect a quiet , solitary, meditative experience.

Beautiful hike in north Tucson. Made it maybe 3-4 miles in but had to turn back due to time constraints. Gorgeous views of Tucson. Amazing Mountain View’s. Rocky but not sure why it’s rated as hard, maybe I didn’t make it far enough up the trail. Easy trailhead to find. Looking forward to going farther when I have more time.

The falls started getting small, still plenty of water in the bigger and higher reservoirs. Glad to make through with friend and 3 kids. Still popular even getting pretty hot. The reviews on this site and many people on the way helped a LOT in preparation and not getting lost for the first time! Exhausted and overheated. Will try again when weather is cool and more water in the creek.

Popular Destination hike with lots of creek crossings 12? total creek xings most people like. Wade or Rock hop with poles helpful. Destination 7 Falls are HUGE and beautiful. Resting at base: a few people fell on butts due to camoflauge rock moss =:o. Most of hike is along creek bottom until grand finale cascading Falls. Check Visitor Ctr weather (flash floods) n bring lots of water.

Hike Up from Sabino Visitor Center & tram down. Lovely shade along Phoneline in am.

Nice hike with good view

Third time to the top. Awesome trail, many birds and turkeys today.. felt weird to hike on a Tuesday but was so worth calling in sick to work today!! I feel awesome after this long hike!!

It’s a very popular hike here and suitable for many levels of hikers. The falls are beautiful! Several water crossings which is always fun! Make a day out of it.

Excellent way to spend the day. Hike takes you through a canyon along a creek. Great views. Hiking time 3 hours - 14km from parking lot and back. Some areas are not marked well so keep your eye in the trail.

One of my favorites around here! The views are spectacular and it has a fair amount of elevation in a short distance but if you take your time, it’s worth the climb. Take a nice lunch and relax at the summit. Sabino Canyon in general never disappoints.

We have hiked this twice. This trip reminded us this is a tough hike. Don't be deceived by the short distance. The middle portion is all steep rocky switchbacks up the front of the mountain… up about 800’ in ¾ mile. Very challenging. My Garmin showed hike at 6.1 miles starting at visitor center, with about 1800' elevation gain. Hot and no shade. I would not do this in the afternoon. Bring plenty of water. Not a busy hike so may have nice 360 views at the top all to yourself! As others have said ... don't stop until you get to the end of trail sign.

This is one of the toughest hikes in the Catalinas. If you are afraid of heights and cliffs: many people have to turn back at one of a few sections that are bare rock, narrow, and along a drop-off. My hiking partner had to crawl and hands and knees the first time we did it. It's steep and there are quite a few areas where you need to haul yourself up over rocks. BUT it is so worth it! It's great cardio day, amazing views, the pines smell wonderful along the last mile on a warm day. Coming down takes about as long as going up (which is not true of most hikes). Agree with the others - start early because it will take all day. For a half day trip, go to the Linda Vista lookout which is about 3 miles up (watch for the intersection and take two rights).
