Great hike...make sure to climb the tower

When they say it's hard, they mean it's HARD. A friend and i were mentally willing ourselves to make it to the summit

This was an amazing trail. Easy to follow for the most part. Well maintained path except for places where recent monsoon rains washed out some supporting beams. Be sure to bring enough water and don't forget your camera and hiking poles (like I did). Great views of East Flagstaff the entire way, long switchbacks, plenty of shade once you pass the Fat Man's Loop intersection and hit the larger trees. There are a few false summits, but these reward you with great photo ops and a place to rest on the large boulders. Nearing the top of Elden, you'll be hiking among stands of Aspen trees, which are beautiful in their own right. The view from the top includes the Peaks, the Elden basin, and Rocky Ridge Rd. Not to mention views of downtown, NAU campus, Walnut Canyon, and the Sedona cliffs in the distance. All around great hike! A wonderful way to "feel the burn" and experience the city from a new angle.

It was a great hike for this 50, er...29 year old :D It is good for awesome views. We had intended to catch Oldham trail back to buffalo park where we had parked a car, but it was closed for logging, so keep that in mind.

Went Memorial Day week. Great hike that was difficult but the view was worth it at the top

This was my first time hiking Elden from this side of the mountain and starting in the park. As soon as I got out of the park and on to the trail i got lost.
As soon as you get to the top of a slope there's a yellow sign for the gas pipeline, that's what I took, the trail is actually top the left and there is a trail marker I didn't see.
once on the trail you're golden but it's easy to get lost as there are a lot of trails or personally made paths that intersect Oldham. I did lower, which round trip is 6 mi, I ended up doing 8 mi+ with the round abouts and I did start upper Oldham but turned back as that would have endured up being almost 11 mi round trip that I want prepared for.
This hike definitely is moderate, with some good ups and downs that'll get your heart beating. I can't wait to explore more.

Very beautiful trail. Pretty easy moderate.

A challenging uphill trek with gorgeous views. We did this in a thunderstorm, which was quite the challenge!
