As long as it hasn’t rained in a few days this is a great trail. One of my favorites.

We went in February so it was a bit cold but that was expected. This was an amazing trail with bits of snow patches and a very well marked trail system. We used our GPS quite a bit to make sure we stayed on the trail and that helped. This would be an amazing trail to do in the spring, summer or fall. We will be back.

Nice Trail to Ride

Love this trail. We even saw a small herd of horses. The mares were interested in our horses but the stallion quickly diverted them.

Not too strenuous at all a few hills but nothing too major. Very rocky. Very long took us 4 hours to do the whole loop, we did take a few breaks. Several spots with great views for photo ops. Make sure you follow the white diamonds and you cross over a few dirt roads. There is also a shortcut about 4 miles in - follow the white diamonds with the yellow dot, I'd say this cuts about 4 miles off the 9.3 but I'm not sure, just a guess but it is a significant shortcut

Saw a herd of elk just off the trail

I used to hike this area a lot years ago during the fall grouse hunt. Very steep with lots of aspens. I have not been back in quite a while, and not since the Wallow fire at all. Great spot for fall colors with all the aspen trees it has.

This was a great trail! It was well marked and maintained, and the trail itself is interesting to follow, with a wide variety of nature and wildlife (including cows). However, be aware that the loop itself is closer to being 13 miles long than it is to being 9 miles.

Beautiful trail full of wildlife, aspen groves and thick dense canopy. We took our Cub Scout den and hiked 6 miles of the loop. It was a great time and was not very difficult.

This trail was very well marked. I agree it is definitely moderate. Not much wildlife except for a few horn toads. We took the short loop, which took us about 3 1/2 hours. Definitely worth it.

Good length for a couple hours hike. Some pretty panoramic views but not as many as you might expect. Not very much elevation gain so good for someone who has bad knees or doesn't want the challenge of a mountain.

Tough but fun hike if you do the full 13 miles.

My boyfriend and I are seasoned hikers and were in the area looking for a fun long hike. To be honest, we were a bit disappointed. There weren't that many great scenic points for how long the trail was. It was a great length for a good afternoon activity, but I'd say it is more of an easy rated trail for a quiet enjoyable walk through the woods.

Cool trail, although pretty hard for me. If you are out of shape and/or not used to the altitude, it will be a great workout. I am both, so I was really huffing at times. Also, I am an experienced bike rider, but not an experienced trail rider. There are two sections at the beginning and end, which have tons of fist-sized rocks. If you go clockwise, the section after about 2-3 miles is very downhill and the one towards the end is very uphill. I had to get off and walk. Great scenery, great views, fresh air. 9 am on a Saturday, I saw two riders in the parking area, and two horse trailers, but I did not see anyone on the trail. It is well-marked, as are most WMTS trails. Going clockwise, towards the end, the trail criss-crosses a big dirt road and is a bit confusing. Just stay on the road and keep your eyes peeled off the road to the left looking for the white diamonds to start again.

The trail was a wonderful combination of climbing combined with more easy and open trail. The fall colors were beautiful and some wildflowers. We didn't see much wildlife, but birds were available for viewing. The burned out portion was very stark and made us feel like we were in the Game of Thrones forest, with raven's calling in the distance! Even so, the hike was a challenge for someone who has not hiked in a while and I felt accomplished after it was complete!

Awesome trail. Great single track, not very rocky. Follow trail clockwise for the most fun.

Did the short loop today, wonderful views from the ridge. Well marked and easy to follow. Lucky enough to a coyote and some beautiful wild flowers. Just made it back to the car before an amazing storm hit. So glad we paid attention to forecast and hiked early, parts of this trail are very exposed and would be quite scary in a thunderstorm

I thought this was a fun trail. The uphill was a bit challenging but you are rewarded by the long downhills. Not too many technical areas. Beautiful ride.

Love this trail for mountain biking. Lots of variety and not too technical. Great trail for beginners.

We loved this hike! Very green. Tons of wildflowers and trees. The vista/overlook was so beautiful! But alot of the trail was beginning to be overgrown with baby aspens. So we had to push our way through...which was fun! (Eagle Scout project right there!)

Some parts very pretty, but most all the trees are burned down!!! :(. Pretty easy hike with a beautiful river at the end.

Definitely a good trail. My wife and I hiked it 3/26/15. Beautiful day. One set of retirees did the mountain bike. Another horse trailer was parked there. It is very well marked except for the intersection of the short cut if you go counter clock wise direction. We probably walked a mile in the wrong direction before my gut said to turn around. When we got back on the trail around 1/4 mile marker 20 we ran into a lady on a horse. She told us about a road that would provide another short cut. I'm glad we took it. It is an ATV trail and was better for us at that point.

Great mtb trail close to town with a little bit of everything from rocky descents to smooth swoopy turns through pine trees and a nice steady uphill climb. Recommend riding clockwise as the panoramic views are easily missed when riding the other direction. Easy to navigate, just follow the blue and white markers on the trees. No facilities at the trailhead so come prepared and ready to rip! Good fun!

Loved this hike! We did the shortcut and everything was clearly marked. The view at the top is beautiful! Well worth it and so close to central pinetop. We even saw a family with kids on this one and some people riding horses!

Nice trail. I also went east and cutback on the clearly marked shortcut. 4.64 miles according to my app. The beginning is a leisurely walk through the White Mountains, and so is the middle and end. The really interesting part comes about a mile and a half into the trail, where you climb a sparsely treed ridge where you can get good views of the White Mountains looking south and east. Unfortunately, this stretch only lasts less than a half mile. I whole-heartedly recommend stopping at marker P7 right before you climb down from the ridge, where you can take in the peace and serenity of the mountains under a shaded Ponderosa Pine.

Fun hiking trail. I was not able to complete because I ran low on water. I would suggest doing trail in cooler seasons. The beginning of the trail is about a mile or two down from high way 191 you take a turn off where you can park your car and then proceeded on foot down and old logging road. Look for the trail head sign on the left of the logging road. The trail descends down until you get close to red mt and you start to climb up again. Here the trail is hard to follow look for Ribbon or white string that marks the trail or use gps. Also good camping spot after step accent half way up red mt or almost at the end of trail. Trail could be completed in 2 days but there are no water sources to get water from on trail. I rated it 3 star because of difficulty following and lack of water sources.

If you want a shorter hike, take the East half of the loop and come back on the shortcut trail. It's well marked and still has the panorama views. This brings the length to just under four miles.

The local MTBers Strava bench mark. Fun, Scenic & 100% single track. Mountain Bikers should use caution on weekends as this trail is popular w/ hikers & equestrians also.

Recently 1/2 burned in the Wallow Fire. The Aspen section in the 1st 1/2 of trail is intact.
Unfortunately this trail is in wilderness & no bike are allowed :/
