Not really a “peak” hike, but a nice day hike to add on to a road trip down the Seward Hgwy! Moderate incline through woods, very beautiful in the fall. The turn off from the McHugh Lake Trail to the rocky overlook “peak” is hard to find unless you know where to look, using the AllTrails app map was amazing for tracking where we were on the trail! Steep climb over dirt and roots to the overlook. Great views of Turnagain arm and the mountains in the distance!

Better for biking, trail running, etc. wider developed trail. One Black bear spotted about 10-15 yards off the trial on the southwest side of the airstrip.

Trails are in great shape. Lots of off-leash dogs, a few on leash. Trails near the parking lot were heavily traveled during the 6pm hour. Farther out up near the ridge on the single track trails were rather quiet and a great hike.

Tried doing this trail after work with the kids (4 year old and 1 year old). 4 year old was a bit slow so we didn’t get to do the whole thing. Will definitely come back without the kids. Clean, well maintained. Lots of bikes so make sure to be cautious around blind turns.

Great hike with lots of scenery. Found lots of bear and moose evidence so I would suggest having bells, bear spray etc while on this hike. You can get easily turned around up there as there are many different trails that connect. Trails are well marked with signs and color coordinated markers.

So many side trails and single tracks. Fun for biking or hiking. Trails are shared with horses, so be aware

Great easy secluded woodsy trail around the airstrip. Rolling creek nearby. Saw a fox. No hilltop views but perfect if you’re looking for just a quiet running trail or easy hiking options

This shouldn’t be called McHugh Peak trail. It doesn’t go anywhere near McHugh Peak or even the McHugh Peak Trail. It starts off following the McHugh Lake Trail and then turns off at a spot labeled Scenic Loop. We walked past there and went up the nex unmarked turnoff and ended up on a “peak” slightly higher than the one where the trail in this entry ends. It was about .5 miles further but no climbing or tough spots. It was a beautiful viewpoint to enjoy lunch.

Pretty steep towards the end....kids couldn’t make the final climb. We could see Beluga Point and it was beautiful. Once you get further up the trail there is a lot of underbrush. You can tell this one isn’t hiked much. Would love to have seen the views from the peak, but maybe next time!

I loved this hike. There was just enough people where we didn't feel completely isolated, but not enough to get in our way. Lots of uphill & down hill with many switchbacks to keep it interesting and challenging.

Fun. Bring your legs for the first half, all up hill. Some areas with heavy roots , but it's a trail through the trees.

Great trail that’s not too far out of town! Very steep at points but if you go out on a clear day, the views are pretty great!

Trail was quite muddy and snowy. Walked out for a few minutes and ran back. Feet are wet from snow and mud.

Nice short trail. Steep incline for a bit but worth it for the amazing views at the top. Muddy in one area but easy to work around. great trail.

Incredible views! Not very hard at all! You walk the ridge for a good part of the hike with 360 views... it’s beautiful. Will definitely be going back. Hit a few annoying ice patches today due to the snow melting but nothing crazy! (4-1-19)

We did it in mid February a little snow on first 1/4 mile than none at all no need for spikes nice easy all the way up and beautiful view on top ....

This is a great trail with taking a simple walk in and around nature with the family
