This is a nice little hike. All abilities can do this as it is a gradual incline, well marked, and maintained. I would recommend starting in the Riley picnic area so you can go along the river. We did out and back and was at 3.4 miles.

Horseshoe lake is beautiful. No wild life seen. The trail is listed as moderate but was easy. There are well maintained steps from the trail head to the lake. You’ll get your heart rate up on the way back to the trail head.

LOVED this trail. Very scenic and easy to follow. There are some stairs, but well maintained and easy to climb. The hardest part of the trail was walking the stone along the railway in order to get to the trail head- lol! No wildlife in sight, but we did chat with some other Denali campers in the afternoon and they saw a moose! Keep your eyes peeled!

Easy, with nice walks in the woods, as well as around the lake, seeing the beaver dam and a female moose calmly grazing just off the trail.

This was an easy trail. The beaver dams were really cool and to see their work on the trees around the lake was very interesting. But Denali overall was less spectacular then some of the glacier hikes we did in alaska. It was steady with people even with Covid shirting most of the park buildings. We wanted to do savage river too but it was closed, too bad.

Nice, short trail. Inclines but nothing too bad. Not the most peaceful since you can hear the highway on a lot of it, but we didn’t come across any other people which was nice. In some areas, you could hear the nearby creek. Lots of wildflowers, Scott…

Nice easy & quick little hike! We saw a moose grazing in the water about halfway in. A little buggy but nothing unmanageable!

We ended our hike way too early being charged by a momma moose. Please keep your eyes open because we let ourselves be a bit too comfortable and we regretted it. Thankfully she let us live today but others may not be as lucky.

Easy with gentle hills. Well groomed. And while we didn’t see any, we were certainly aware of sharing the trail with moose.

Easy short hike with kids, ages 4 and 7 years old. Trail was in perfect condition. The beaver dams were impressive.

Did the trail about 3 weeks ago, it is a small trail but in the winter it can be very peaceful and nice, also didn’t see many people around. the lake was completely frozen and you can actually walk on it as well as the river. Did find tracks of animals but didn’t get the chance to see any. Easy and beautiful trail.

Did the trail in Aug 2019. Effort to reward ratio is max in this one as this one is an easy hike with breathtaking views. I was awed by the beaver dams. These fellas are so hardworking and build these amazing dams. There are multiple viewpoints with amazing views. Loved this one.

Made this trail yesterday. It was an easy walk. We combined a bit of taiga trail, meadow view connector trail and roadside trail.

Nice walk. Not a hike. LOTS of evidence for beaver activity, but we didn’t see any beavers. Great hike for families with kids.

What a beautiful day! Same as others, if I come to Denali again, I will take this trail too. Enjoyable! A good way to take a look of Denali and this park. Easy trail. Take a walk and enjoy.

Hike the trail each time we stay at Wonder Lake (7 times). Easy and enjoyable. Well maintained with new boardwalk over streams and mud prone areas. We go in late August/ early September. Good weather with great views of the whole Alaska range. Fewer bugs than at the campground. Never needed a net or repellent. Can be crowded especially when Kantishna area based resorts bring vans full of guests. Our group of 4 went in on a Thursday seeing only.4 others on the trail. Going up or down the Mickinley’s braids gives a chance to extend the hike and have more solitude. Wildlife viewing iffy. Blueberry and cranberry picking can be good.

This trail was decent. Pretty well maintained. There was a decent hill to climb down before you get to the lake (and back up on return). We parked near the train tracks. The trail was good but overall the views weren’t all that spectacular. There was a beaver dam that we saw, which was pretty cool. I was expecting better picture perfect locations for the lake but didn’t really see much so I was a little disappointed with that. But overall the walk was good, aside from the hill!

A walk down to horseshoe lake. We stopped at the beaver dam and saw nothing though the dam was amazing. Yes n our walk back however we had an amazing encounter with a very large beaver. He was walking right down the middle of our path. We backed up & enjoyed watching it chewing up tree bark. Someone else saw a bear near the lake but we did not. A fun little trail.

I would recommend this trail to anyone. Super well marked and easy trail - beginning/end is a little steep, but after that it’s almost completely flat. The views of the lake and river are incredible, and so are the beaver dams. You can see all the trees that the beavers have fell as well as their dams. We actually saw one working on the dams, which was incredible. Birds were flying inches from our faces making this an easy but still magical hike.

Very easy and beautiful hike in Denali. The water is so clear and reflects so well. Definitely take a camera with you. We saw many beaver dams and even a porcupine on our hike. He crossed the trail then went up a tree. The hike didn’t take long at all. Great for all skill levels.
