HikingGreat!No shadeScramble

After starting off with about a quarter mile of flat trail through thick forested vegetation, it’s an unrelenting 3.5 mile ascent to Mt. Healy. Get ready to scramble on a trail of loose rock that can easily become undetectable if you aren’t paying attention. This is one of the more difficult day hikes I’ve done. The challenge, however, is well worth the views you will experience from bottom to top, and reaching the summit of Mt. Healy is extremely rewarding. This is a stunning hike with vistas and visages everywhere you look. Get conditioned beforehand, and the trek may be particularly dangerous in the rain given the terrain and trail of rock, but otherwise I highly recommend this excursion!!

As others have reported, this is a fairly short but steady ascent to a great panorama of McKinley Village and the entrance to Denali. Can't see much into the park westward, but you have a great big sky for beautiful clouds.

Loved this trail. Compared to the other trails listed as hard in Alaska, I would personally rate this one as moderate!

Great fairly quick trail, we saw a moose & her calf wading in the water. Beautiful views of the lake & river with rapids

Lovely hike. Well maintained. Did it with our 3 kids, aged 7, 9, and 11. We hiked one way from the visitors center and then the Denali grizzly bear resort will shuttle you back to your car for a small fee, which is great.

Great hike. As other reviews have mentioned it is not too steep but it is a steady incline the entire way to the top. Definitely doable for beginners if you take your time. Beautiful views once you reach the top. Will be back for another hike!

Good hike. Uphill the whole way to the top and also pretty steep. Well worth it for the views at the top. Highly recommend.

Had a great time. Tough on the calves going up, tough on the knees coming down, but if a Nebraska boy can do it... One simply must continue past the “maintained” portion; the path is well beaten and the views are worth the extra effort. We saw a bunch of moose and sheep poop, but only saw a few marmots and a squirrel in the woods. Fun hike. I definitely recommend it.

HikingGreat!

My favorite trail on the recent trip to Denali. The views are incredible. Steady incline up and then down and not too bad on the knees. Plenty of time to spot beautiful wildflowers and ponder. If you have the ability, park one car at the end and drive to the beginning. Give yourself an extra hour and have a picnic at summit. Bug dope required.

Added .7 and caught some decent rain at the top which slowed down the pace for slick terrain. Great views, great level of effort. Loved it!

Hell of a climb up to the top. Your legs will feel it. Continue past marked trail for some nice views. If it rains like it did while we climbed, you might end up walking a stream.

Wow! What a hike! Definitely a climb. The park rates it as strenuous, AllTrails rates it moderate. I would say it is in between. Mosquitoes are pretty thick in shaded areas, so definitely bring bug spray. My best advice besides bugspray is to keep going once the maintained trail ends at the overlook. You get to hike along the ridge & that was our favorite part of the hike. Made the 1,700 foot hike worth it. You feel like you are in the Lord of the Rings walking through Middle Earth. Also, I brought my hiking poles and was very thankful I had them.

I was a little nervous hiking this with my parents (60+), but they had no problem making it to the top! We took our time and rested at the view points along the way- definitely pack a light daypack. If you have poles, I would recommend bringing them along. However, you can do just fine without them. At the top, there are spectacular views. Although it was hot on the way up, would recommend bringing long sleeves for the top- it's chilly with the wind. We would hike this trail over and over again if we could!

LOVED this trail. Very scenic and easy to follow. There are some stairs, but well maintained and easy to climb. The hardest part of the trail was walking the stone along the railway in order to get to the trail head- lol! No wildlife in sight, but we did chat with some other Denali campers in the afternoon and they saw a moose! Keep your eyes peeled!
