Well worth the hike. I’d recommend going up the hard route (right) and reward yourself by coming down the easier side (left). The views at the top were breathtaking. Took about 35 minutes up with water breaks and had the summit to myself. If you have the time, continue along the ridge to Black Tail (another must do).

Great hike. The first 3/4 is realistically moderate the last 1/4 is hard, but completely worth the view. The trail has a couple routes you can take as well. Great way to see the town of anchorage. Wind can get crazy but it’s fun. Well traveled so you won’t be alone

Steep steep to the top, but so worth it! Went down the easier way, and that helped a lot.

Nice easy start then quite the “goat climb” to the top beautiful views all around saw a Dall Sheep that crossed the trail ahead of me. 6 Bald Eagles circling over head and a huge bull Moose off in the distance

Straight up you go but worth the views at the top. Cloudy day but could wait a minute as the clouds passed in and out for clearer views. Saw no bears. A memorial bench about 1/3 the way up and abundant wildflowers about 1/2 the way up where you can expect a short break in the steep elevation climb. 2 and 1/2 hours up and 2 down with a stop for lunch on the way back.

First time ever today. So awesome! The views are spectacular.

Amazing views from the top and is challenging getting back down over the rocks. Fantastic hike!

Apparently there was a bold black bear sighting on July 24th, so for protection I took a wet stick, a pocket knife, and some headphones. Luckily there was no bear sighting today, but there was a pretty aggressive ground squirrel that gave me a look at the top of the tree line, so look out for that guy!
The hike was amazing, but the best part was continuing past The Dome, along the ridge line all the way to Knoya Peak. This adds about 3 miles to the whole hike and the top of the ridge is some rocky terrain with some climbing required, but well worth it. The top of the peak had a nice little grass patch to sit and enjoy the views. Would hike again!!
OooWee!!

It was pretty but a short hike.

This was a difficult trail. Pretty much straight the whole way up with few switch backs. Trail was not super well marked at times but was still fairly easy to follow. Worth it for the incredible views at the top. Lots of flowers blooming when we hiked (end of July). Took up about 5ish hours total. Definitely glad we brought snacks and plenty of water.

Path goes to a great viewing area. There was a Merlin Hawk that tried to catch a duck right in front of us

Great hike!

Quick steep hike very busy as well. The scramble to the top is fun and some great views from the top!

Three main sections for this hike. Begins with rolling hills in the forest and then up to a ridge. Fairly dry the rest of the way with a series of switch backs followed by a climb along the Ridgeline until the peak. Definitely worth the views from the summit. Look for the air craft remains on your right after the switch backs as you make your way to the peak. Bring lots of water.

Definitely a good workout hike. Trekking poles would definitely help on the way down. Beautiful view from the top.

Great hike! One of my favorites in Alaska so far. Beautiful view of Eklutna! The clouds were pretty low, so we couldn't see all the peaks, but still worth it!

My gal and I hiked Flattop early on a warm summer day. When we arrived we were the only ones there and the view was so inspiring that we decided to make love. I can tell you from experience, this is a great place to view Alaska from and even greater for making love.

new to anchorage, took my boyfriend and I about 5 hours. beautiful views but you can see the highway most of the time, was great to be able to bring the dog along. didn't see any bears. no snow on the trail July 2018

Great hike very near Anchorage.

Hiked it yesterday with my husband 3 kids and dog. Was an awesome hike and the view at the top was amazing!!

it's tough but, rewarding hike. last mile is all rock climbing however, many families with little kids were able to do this hike. Views are amazing. Memorable part of our Anchorage visit.

Took my 5 year old son, 9 year old daughter, and our little dog for a nice morning hike. we stopped a few times and the kids ate lunch at the top just before the steep rocky part. We tried to climb all the way to the flag but was too steep, unstable rocky ground and I felt uncomfortable with the kids so we turned around. the last 1/3 is tough that's for sure. next time it will be a grown up trip to the top.

This is a gorgeous trail overlooking Anchorage. I would do it again only after some rain, though, because it was so dusty today that people were slipping a bunch. Be careful with dogs and small children on dry days. The views even from the halfway point are worth it!

Beautiful hike, read the reviews and they were definitely right! Take the right trail at the fork to get the steepest part of out the way on the way up!

Good hike, mostly up hill. The trail is well kept and the views are great once you get to the top. There are some benches to rest about every mile. Defiantly bring your camera.

Great day hike near the old Nike Missile Site across from JBER and amazing views of the Anchorage bowl area. My son and I followed the ridge over to Highland Mt from Gordon Lyon for a view of downtown Eagle River. Gordon Lyon definitely steeper on the backside!

Snack bar at the trail head and lodge available to rent. They have had trouble with vehicle break-ins here so I recommend going on the weekend when there’s more people. Watch out for cow parsnip at the beginning of the trail -toxic to humans and pets. Trail accessible from Arctic Valley Rd (open from 0600-2200).

But there are several downsides to legalising marijuana for recreational purposes. One of the main issues is that legalisation sends out a message to impressionable adolescents that marijuana is perfectly acceptable. The other issue is that it will become far easier for minors to purchase marijuana even though it will supposedly only be available to those over 21 yo. Just like alcohol, teens can always find older siblings or friends to buy cannabis for them but having said that, it's already fairly easy for young people to purchase marijuana, whether it's legally acquired or not.

This trail is marked at the beginning of the trailhead as being 2.6 miles one way. I’m pretty sure this is referring to the distance to the second bench. I’ve done this trail 3 times the first two times the goal was always to the first bench which has an amazing view of Eklutna. This last time decided to continue on. The second bench has a great view of the twin peaks and we were lucky to be able to see lots of Dall Sheep on the peaks. We ended up following the trail to the right towards Pepper Peak to get another view of Eklutna. Round trip we did 6.40 miles (starting in the parking lot and ending in the parking lot) it took us 4 hours minus the time we spent at the benches and the top view. So glad we continued on for those views, they were worth it. This trail is all uphill and has some steep sections past the second bench. My legs are sore today. Don’t forget to wear sunblock and bug spray!!

This trail is a large paved path about the width of one lane of a road that runs along the highway. I would consider this to be an easy trail. Good for kids biking. It is pretty exposed so wind can be a real problem (brrrr), but the exposure does provide some gorgeous views of the Cook Inlet! I wouldn’t call this a “hike”, more like a walk.
