Super easy trail to the bench. Then you cross the rocky terrain and little rivers to the ice cave. Part of it has fallen so I wouldn't dare go inside as I hear rocks falling inside.

We enjoyed this short, but steep at the end trail. My 6 year old enjoyed playing in the snow. I carried my 3 year old in a carrier on my back. We were our kahtoolahs and I used my trekking poles. Beautiful views.

We took the blueberry trail to the flattop mountain trail. Short but hard trail. Our dogs loved it. Fun and challenging hike!

Trail in good condition. We saw a rabbit who had already turned white for the season.

Good trail, but not amazing. Was recommended to me over Flat Top by several people. DEFINITELY stick to the given trail and use the more direct route. You’ll go wrong if you head straight instead of veering right when you hit the last two trees. The alternate trail will rapidly get VERY muddy and sloppy. Topographically, the longer trail looks easier, but it really isn’t due to the mud. This time of year: Hat with brim would be helpful because you’ll hike right into the sun. Microspikes might also help, altho I managed okay without. Grateful for a windless day. It was a very gentle introduction to Alaska hiking. Many nice people out there.

Hard not to give it five stars when you look from on high at a lake of such sublime blue. I was glad to have had my spikes with me. I used them on the way back down (from the second bench). There was slushy snow about 1/4 mile from the second bench.

Trail is pretty decent. Parts near Powerline Pass and O’Malley trail junction had little snow, some ice, and patches of mud. The boardwalks are pretty slick because of the ice. However there wasn’t enough snow and ice for micro spikes. Definitely bring them though! Who knows what the trail conditions will be in two days!

Muddy once took left route to the point. Hardly any snow till above tree line. Wear boots !!!!! Wind was brutal on the summit . White out towards wolverine peak.

Great trek. Start at the State Park entrance. It has restrooms and parking. Its a long, slow upward trail. "Moderate" if you're in decent shape...so be prepared for a long uphill hike. I went about another 20 min past the bench. not sure whats after that...but youre on the backside of lake. Bear scat on trail, so be prepared.
