HikingFeeSnow

Wasn’t expecting it, but right from the trail head the trail is covered in snow, and is snow covered the rest of the way. Shortly after you start, when you get to the lamp post, the trail heads right, so always keep the lamp on your left, if not, you’ve gone too far from the trail. The trail then heads up the little valley following the stream. All the way up until the saddle, the snow is compact and easy to tread on. Gorgeous views from the saddle into the South Fork valley area. Then you can either go left up Mt. Gordon Lyon, or right up South Fork Overlook. Mt. Gordon Lyon seemed to be the easier of the two, with a compact trail. We decided to go right and try South Fork Overlook - snow was NOT compact and very slippery, so we turned back. Logged 3.5 miles in 2 hours

Rock climbing

Snow, Ice, loose rock made this a challenging hike but the day was really nice. started hiking at 8am with 22°. some route finding involved. Great views, lots of sidehilling.

HikingGreat!

Hands down my favorite hike accessible from Girdwood and Seward. The summer trail is easy with stunning views the entire way. This is a hike worth saving for a bluebird day because the views are spectacular. We clocked about 14.3 miles on my iWatch but 15.8 miles on all trails (who knows lol) so plan accordingly. The hike to lost lake from Primrose is more of a challenge with the same end payoff.

We recorded 4.5 miles round trip from car to the lake and back. The first 1.5 miles is really steep, then it mostly flattens out. The trail crosses a creek several times that spills out onto the trail in some areas making it very muddy and difficult to cross. We saw bear scat throughout the trail so stay alert! We found a small beach area to enjoy the lake. Overall definitely worth the trek

Super cool trail with views of the glacier all throughout. It was very clear today which was great. Would highly recommend wearing solid hiking boots, waterproof if possible, as you will be basically walking on a creek and lots of mud throughout.

Took the winter trail on the way up and it was pretty muddy. Definitely much steeper than the summer trail but not difficult. I didn’t have time to go all the way to the lake today but what I saw was beautiful. The walk back on the summer trail was an easy stroll

Great trail with stunning views. Heavy rain and fog but still incredible. Have good hiking boots, waterproof. Parts were muddy and through shallow waterways. First mile or so is challenging incline on loose rocks. Challenging, rewarding, and of the better reasons to take the toll tunnel to Whittier.

It was super wet and the clouds made any views impossible. Water on almost all of the trail but doable. Definitely inclined for the first mile as stated previously. Rocky the entire way but not slippery. There were a couple areas of slight scrambling. Passed the elevation marker the trail was a little more difficult to read due to large puddles and many branch offs and it was way less defined. May be easier on a day with better weather and more visibility though. Other than that it was a good hike, with I’m sure, better views when the clouds and fog are gone.

It is a nice loop. The right side is the steeper side so we went up that way and it is muddy in some places. A beautiful view once you get to the top!
