This was a great trail, but the hike out from the north trailhead is in the “moderate plus” range. That threw me off a little, as the first mile out was a lot more exercise than I was expecting from a “moderate” trail. After you get to the spot where the red connector meets, it is someplace in between easy and moderate. As a comparison, going out was similar in effort to the “ridge and valley” trail at Ruffner. However, the view at the top is the best in town.

though it rained pretty hard, me and my fiancé LOVED this park! the trails are awesome and the views are beautiful!! even the staff are extremely sweet!!! will definitely come back!

An uphill trek begins from the North Trailhead. Once on the ridge, you'll be treated with gorgeous scenic views. Don't miss King's Chair, Eagle's Nest and other views from the ridge. Will definitely be back.

First time hiking in oak mountain. The green trail has a bit of a bite to it. Definitely a moderate trail with various dips and rises across the mountain to the Peavine Fall. We connected to the white trail to the top of the falls. The climb down to the bottom of the fall is a bit tricky an can be slippery climbing out. Taking the green trail back became a little tasking so we took the orange (horse) trail back to the wild life center. It’s a pretty level hike back saved us about 30 minutes (just watch your step). Overall Peavine Falls did not disappoint and the green trail was a welcomed challenge.

Short trail that connects the park office area with the Alabama Wildlife Center, a hospital for injured wildlife. Name comes from a high boardwalk near the park office that features some caged birds (vultures, hawks, owls, etc.). Note that to do the 1.7 miles loop you also have to use part of the Yellow Trail, not just the Treetop Nature Trail. Nice hike if you are not up for some of the park's more challenging trails.

Nice loop with some flat areas and some steep, rocky areas. 20-foot Peavine Falls is nice when it has enough water, which it frequently does not. The Green Trail keeps going east on the ridgeline and ends down near the park office, so do not miss the right turn on the green-white connector to stay on this loop. Also, there is a nice overlook from the ridgetop Green Trail. Probably the most scenic hike at Oak Mountain though definitely not the longest.

Enjoyed the hike. Pretty stout terrain. Definitely moderate. Not for beginners unless you enjoy being super sore.

This is one of my favorite hikes in the Birmingham area. Certainly a fun date with a semi-difficult hike to the top (depending on your activity level) and a very rewarding view at the end. I certainly recommend taking your time at the top of King's Chair so be sure to factor that into your allotted hiking time. It is great for dogs and offers a stunning view of the Chelsea area. It is always breezy at the top of King's chair, so plan accordingly.

Short, very easy trail. I'm an avid geocacher, and there are several caches hidden along this trail. Very nice walk in the woods!

Nice challenging trail! Worth the hike!

Great hike today with family

Went out and hiked the new trail. Great trail. Can't wait to ride it.

It was good:)

I love the blue trail! I prefer to start off in the PVF parking lot — you still get elevation gains if you hike the entire trail but the ascents are more gradual than if you start from the north trailhead. My favorite loop is blue trail to yellow trail to green trail. I start and end at the south trailhead/Peavine Falls parking lot. Lots of beautiful vistas, around 2000 ft elevation gains, and it’s a 14.4 mile hike if you include a stop at Kong’s Chair. If you enjoy long hikes and have about 6 hours to spare, I highly recommend it!

good workout getting up the mountain, definitely worth it once you're up on the ridge

Lives up to its name. Great treat to see after a run.

Awesome workout. Starts off rough coming from the north trail. Ran/walked/hiked from the gate to Kings Bridge lookout and back. The view is worth it. Yall weren’t lying when you rated it “difficult.”

Oak Mountain is a beautiful place! I have ran here multiple times and have always had a beautiful experience! It challenges me in the best way! Hike to King’s Chair for a jaw dropping view!

Fairly easy route. Steep climb right out of North Trailhead. A lot of exposed tree roots. Great view and peaceful once you get to King’s Chair. Fairly easy hike out. Decided to skip Red-blue connector and go to orange connector so as to pass plane crash site. Nothing really to see. Took orange connector to Red road for feeder trail out to north trailhead. Red road is gentle downhill descent with a lot of gullies. Overall it was a good trail. Bring camera for great pics on overlooks.
