Did this trail twice while I was on St. John. Enjoyable hike, not to difficult. Alittle rocky in some areas but not to bad. Passed a person who was jogging on the trail. Great view of Cruz bay and st Thomas. I did the lower trail on the way in to honeymoon beach. Takes you along the water and to Solomon beach and then to honeymoon beach. If you go early in the morning, you will be the only ones on the beaches. On the way back to Cruz bay, I took the upper trail, make sure to stop at the lookout area that looks over Cruz bay.

This trail is officially called L'Experance. We took the Great Sieben Trail to it, as we are staying on the road, where that trail head is. Great Sieben is pretty overgrown in spots, and somehow we managed to miss the fork to the right to take us up to the main trail. . We ended up at the Baobob Tree. The upper part of this trail is pretty clear, it gets more overgrown as you get closer to the bottom. Our legs and arms got pretty scratched up. The beach and ruins down the bottom were great. Though my husband thinks that I tried to kill him.

The trail is great hike for at least half day. Going out is mostly down hill, and you could see birds, lizards, hermit crabs, deers, donkeys. It’s covered by trees 70% of the time, and there’s a stream half way of the trail. A lot of mosquitoes around.

Hiked this afternoon and loved the view. This was a challenging trail for me but my walking stick really helped.

This trail rated easy is misleading for anyone with balance, knee or back issues. My girlfriend found boring and non attractive. And very difficult.

This trail is difficult but the pay off with the views makes it worth it.

A little more difficult. It is old plantation road for some of the hike. You are half-way at Reef Bay where you'll find an amazing beach so take snorkel and mask. It is steep but open at the very beginning and the very end. Expect amazing views but these are rare with the canopy. Reef Bay Plantation at the bottom.

Trail head has parking for vehicles on both sides of road. It is fairly open with nice canopy most of way. At the bottom "half-way" you'll find scenic & historic site, abandoned since 1917. You can either take trail back to trail-head or take the L'Esperance trail back to Centerline (you'll then need to walk back to other trail head). Part way down, check out the petroglyphs and the water fall on the petroglyph trail.

Amazing views!!!! One of our favorite hikes! Will sometimes encounter wild donkey and iguanas.

The trail was shaded most of the way in the morning. It's very steep going down and the way back up is harder because the sun is high and the trail is like 2 miles in 2 miles out. Overall a great little hike. Lots of wildlife and cool nature

Great view of the bay. Trail leads to Honeymoon beach, which is fantastic.

Most difficult part is ensuring you have a ride to and from the trail heads if you aren’t renting a vehicle (the buses run much less often on the south shore/centerline rd since the hurricanes). Would recommend taking the L’esperance trail back out to create a sort of loop. Trail up gets very steep (and unshaded) in places so make sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen. It is unlikely that you will see many other hikers and you will probably have the entire beach to yourself when you reach reef bay! We were warned off multiple times from this trail (by locals) but we persisted and were just fine.

Great trail with much more shade than most on St. John. As one hiker mentioned earlier, make sure to wet the petroglyphs to really see them in all their glory. You get a whole range of flora and fauna on this hike as well, especially as you get closer to the beach. Last stretch is all uphill, so bring water and snacks and be ready for a climb at the end.

The trail has some beautiful views of Cruz Bay! There are a few areas with uneven rocks and some incline, but I think the easy rating is fair. Honeymoon beach is beautiful, and the Lindpoint overlook is worth stopping at. Enjoyed this hike!

This is a beautiful beach. If you can find parking nearby it is worth the stop. This isn’t a hike, it’s a stroll along the shore at the beach. Wear a bikini and reef safe sunscreen. Jump in for a snorkel. It’s all good.

This easy trail takes you to a beautiful beach but also to Ram Head point which is beautiful!

The trail is fairly easy-moderate. It’s great because it’s alllll downhill initially. It gets challenging hiking back out at the end. It’s a steep hill climb towards the end especially as you get closer to your car/the road. The petroglyphs were pretty cool and the old plantations are awesome. Some of the stones have coral in them. Loved seeing all the deer and the hermit crabs as you near the beach.

Bring a container to: WET THE PETROGLYPHS!!!

Wife and I enjoyed a short jaunt with our 3 and 4 year old. Pretty rocky in parts but nothing a preschooler can’t handle. Nice vista of the bay.

Super easy little trail. It started raining in the middle so it was slippery because of the rocks.

Gorgeous views from parts of the trail! Also, it wasn’t a huge deal for us but the second half or so of the trail was a bit overgrown. Note that as of 1/3/19 the Caneel Hill Resort was still closed and no access was allowed, so if you’re looking to hike and then hit that beach area just adjust your post-hike plans accordingly. Luckily the hike (if you’re doing just one way and not RT) ends at a road where taxis are passing by (we got one in less than 5 min) and can take you to nearby Trunk Bay (approx 5-8 min taxi ride from the trail), Cinnamon Bay or wherever else you need to go. Bonus: super easy to get to after getting off the ferry in Cruz Bay. Approx 5 min walk from ferry dock to the start of the trail.

easy. mainly rocky but you do get some flat spots.

Pretty moderate trail until the last half mile back uphill, it gets a bit steep. The ruins are amazing and the beach it nice too. Lots of wildlife too!

Easy hike that provides access to a few beaches and there's a nice overlook of Cruz Bay. Very rocky at points and can be slippery when wet.
