Description

Alt Pirineu Natural Park is the largest natural park in Catalonia and is located in the northern counties of Pallars Sobirà and Alt Urgell. It is a refuge for a variety of endangered species and spans across almost 80,000 hectares. The park has a lot of diversity being in the middle of the Pyrenees - such as the park has 6 areas of geological interest, 87 lakes and 94 ponds! It is recorded to have almost 270 species of vertebrates, such as the brown bear, otter, woodpecker, and white-winged sparrow. There are plenty of rare flora to enjoy as well. There are many points of interests in the park which include shrines and hermitages. There is also beautiful architecture and Romanesque art to enjoy on some routes. There is a lot to see and enjoy at Alt Pirineu Natural Park.

This route is one of the most beautiful and popular in all of Catalonia and the Eastern Pyrenees. This trail is known as El Camí Vell and it is a wonder of nature for hiking, outdoor sports and enjoying the magical surroundings of the Vall de Nuria. In ancient times this path was used by pilgrims as a pilgrimage route to reach the Sanctuary of Nuria.
